As a glasses wearer and contact wearer is my prescription the same for my glasses and contacts? I know that my eyes are -8.75/-8.65 for contacts, if i wanted some prescription glasses/sunglasses off the web would these be the same?
I'd have thought that with that prescription having the lens centres in the right place would mean going to an actual opticians would be a good idea.
not sure i understand?
I don't think so, my contacts description is similar to yours but my glasses one is in double figures!
I'd also be a bit surprised if you could buy glasses to that prescription on the web (from anyone reputable at least).
No, your contact lens prescription should be slightly weaker as the lens sits on your eye.
glasses are slightly stronger.
my contacts are 0.5 weaker than my glasses prescription
so -6.0 for glasses but -5.5 for contacts
most online opticians will require a correct glasses prescription for lenses (if they’re any good)
With lenses you want the centre to be where you look through most. Otherwise you'll get various lens effects. My lenses have to have be accurate to a couple of millimetres otherwise they don't work properly. Also your optician should need to know the lens to eye distance to get the correct prescription.
You also need eye dimensions - the size of lens you need plus base curve of the lens. Once you've had one contact lens prescription your good to go but need first one from opticians imho
That’s a pretty strong correction so I’d want to be getting it right rather than guessing off the back of a lenses prescription.
Although it’s amazing what you get used to, I broke my ~10yr old glasses recently which I thought were absolutely fine, now I have a new pair with an up to date prescription makes me realise they really weren’t.
Optician here, Cl and spec rx will be different at your powers due to something called BVD, you need to visit your optician. Also, -8.65? What brand are you wearing?
Depends what you want the glasses for - if, like me, you wear the lenses all the time and just want some cheap glasses to wear in the evening, you would get away with it*. But, yeah, as others have said, prescription is not usually the same.
*that said, mine's -2.5 not -8.65!
Where's the go to place for online contact lenses (ie. the cheapest), nowadays??
I've been on monthly's with Specsavers for years and fancy going down the daily route but they're a bit pricy with them. The ones I tried seemed more comfortable than the monthly ones by far.
Yes, prescriptions will be different. My contacts are -1 and glasses -1.75.
With -8.00 prescription you really need to get specs from a proper optician as the pupillary distance needs measuring properly, as well as the vertical alignment, and the specs need proper fitting.
Yes the prescription will be different, but if you have contacts you should have had a proper spec eye test in the first place.
I'm in the same boat as Jackal. Specsavers monthly but wanting to switch to dailies. I've lost a couple of lenses (one fell out windsurfing, the other (last night) I must have had some chilli sauce on my finger as I was taking it out. The last time I did that the lens was still stingy the next day, so I'm not going to risk it.
My specification is +1.25 and +2.75 (mono user).
I should give my business to my mate The Hustler but it's no harm finding out the lie of the land.
Different prescription and you need more info for specs.
oops - 6.75/6.25 not -8!!
should have gone to specsavers...
