Weather obviously improving cos they've got the helicopter up now.
Mild hyperthermia here we come.
What hideous conditions. I'm surprised there haven't been crashes on this descent.
Tell you what - if I ran into a wall and snapped my forks I wouldn't be casually leaning on a wall. I'd at least be sobbing at the expense of replacing them.
Will Barta has snapped his bike in a crash, though thankfully seems uninjured in himself. Jay Vine down in the same crash. I knoew Jay VIne has high in GC, didn;t realise Wlil Barta was up there too despite BOTH of them being in my velogames team

Mudguards are about the least aero thing you can fit to a bike short of full on panniers.
Not claiming to have the answer here... but covering/shrouding the top part of the wheel - which is moving at twice the bike's speed - should have some benefit. whether that outweighs the extra drag from the guard being wider than the tyre is up for debate.

Now there's an idea - riders to carry their own jackets and bidons in panniers.

Unless I had a team car a minute or two back ready to give me another free bike.
There are downsides to being a pro rider like having to ride in conditions like this but one of the definite bonuses is unlimited free top end kit.
Well that's pleasing if Cav can get back and make a shot at a result...
Offff more down and a mechanic not following the green cross code.
I like the pink Giro train alongside the riders.
This is going to be close - 1 minute, 18km to go...
Come on Cav....!!
here's that green cross code incident

I didn't realise the maglia rosa group contained cav - any other sprinters in there?
Breakaway surely
Yay! I'm number one. Go 'team No Gnocchi'. Stay upright 'G'.
B'hop how did you manage that......no wait.... Ineos boys I see:) , meanwhile everyone else dropping down list;) like snakes and ladders!
cvilla - I decided that Remco may not make it through the mts for the whole 3 weeks (not due to covid), also was thinking that Primoz may have a bad fall, so had more points to spend wisely, time will tell. I have knocked my nephew (Pass the Maio) off the top spot into second place though, whoops.
Love watching Magnus Cort win. He gives the break full commitment and also manages to outfox everyone without resorting to cat and mouse games in the final. He’s got a reputation for a fast sprint but I think that might be as much his mind as his legs.
Yesterday's stage was unexpectedly gripping to watch although it looked thoroughly miserable to ride. Much of the same today - both terrain and weather wise so possibly another chance for the sprinters after yesterday's win by the breakaway.

St B pass out of Fridays stage
It's amazing how less beautiful Italy looks on the telly.
Covid properly ripping through the peloton, Quickstep lose FOUR riders today
https://twitter.com/robynjournalist/status/1658735372854079489
with the last 3 probably socially distancing (and shunned by the peloton) it's going to be lonely 12 days!
Yesterday's breakaway win was enjoyable to watch, for me a sprint finish always seems quite stressful, especially as Cav seems to hit the deck at least once in any one race.
Not sure there is time left for Cav to win a stage, fingers crossed.
There's going to be no-one left at this rate!
Currently, it really is Ineos' race to lose.
I suspect though with Covid transmission rates and the period between infection and being symptomatic that half the rest of the peloton will be positive, even if they don't yet know it. Bike races (especially the rooming together, bus transfers etc) are not exactly sterile, social distancing environments...
Wouldn't be surprised if Ineos lose a rider or two, following on from Ganna. Yesterday's conditions won't have helped riders teetering on the edge of grottiness.
Trek-Segafredo's Natnael Tesfatsion out with flu symptoms
AG2R's Andrea Vendrami out with covid
Yesterday’s conditions won’t have helped riders teetering on the edge of grottiness.
Today isn't much better - and most of the race has been in decidedly poor conditions so far!
Bad luck for Sepp Kuss if he's down too. I've never met any of these riders but Sepp is one of my favourites for some irrational reason. And not just cos of his name 🙂
Bad luck for Sepp Kuss if he’s down too
I'm watching The Breakaway but I'm about an hour behind live coverage - they were saying Sepp has been travelling and staying separately from the rest of the team for a few days now, even down to changing in the car rather than on the bus. Im assuming this is for fear either of him spreading something, or catching something, rather than him being ostracised 😀
ather than him being ostracised 😀
Maybe Italian food makes him fart ...
Jens Voight on the motorbike is brilliant! What a legend.
I do like Jens on the bike, did a sportive with him on, he must have ridden twice as far as everyone, as he seemed to be making a point of riding with every single person on event and chatting, dropping back, catching up and really friendly..
My top tube has "Shut up legs and his autograph on"
He was at the opening night of a Trek shop in Manchester a few years ago where he did a short talk and presentation and he was hilarious. Stories from his time racing, weird and wonderful pics. Really deadpan.
Jen Voight was on a one man breakaway in the 2014 TdF. He was a blur riding through Gunnerside, Yorkshire Dales at the age of 40 (I think), from that day on I was a huge fan.
'Shut up legs' by Jens is a great book.
I was at that crazy-legs....the man is a legend.
Trivial observation - mechanics not using electric wrench to change wheels. Surely would be a time saver?
was that a parrot?
Tao... ☹️
I see G is also practicing his falling off again.
top three all down! tao looks bad
Poor Tao, that looked really bad.
Sivakov was also down. G got up quickly, Sivakov looked to be waiting for a bike but Tao is in the back of an ambulance.
😥
Looks like Oscar Rodriguez is also out in a separate crash.
Damp/greasy roads...
G having a significant chat on the radio.
Tao and Rodriguez both out, Tao in an ambulance 😥
Not watching the end of the race now have to catch up later
interesting point by Kelly of running in team order in that situation. perhaps when the race isn't on the best play is to space your team out in the peloton.
G having a significant chat on the radio.
Asking for a decent tyre sponsor maybe...
This is just turning into a war of attrition, it will be last man standing at this rate, wins..
Anyone think there is an issue with italian authorities freshly tarmacing these roads in the run up, so they seem to be treacherous and oily in wet?
