Wow. I tested positive for COVID for the first time about 6 weeks ago. It floored me for a week, i could get up to eat then had to go back to bed. It was another 3 weeks before i felt ready to get back on a bike.

that you though, irrelevant

another Giro with an asterix for Tao then 🫤

call it off, bin it off, why are we still testing for covid?

why are we still testing for covid?

Because it’s a highly infectious disease that can still have serious health consequences.

For every Remco who gets away with (reportedly) mild symptoms there’ll be a handful of folk still off racing having caught it ages ago.

like a lot of things then 🤷‍♂️😂

Majka carried on during the tour with covid "low viral load" same with Jungels,

anyway, lets not derail the thread with covid chat even if it's relevant

Reckon the current league table may get tipped upside-down! Damn my lack of faith in G. Sorry G. 😂

Ouch..that's a bit of a blow for Remco and the Giro... it was lining up nicely.

But could now give the INEOS boys some ammo to attack and head up the hills for a win?

Assume they'll be tag-teaming Roglic the way Rog and Vingegaard did to Poghacar on tjhe TdF ?

Oh dear, I fat this is not the end of it Covid- wise. Probably a few more won't return after the rest day.

It's only a matter of time before Roglič or Thomas have a big off.

Thomas has been vertical for a week now, which must be something of a PB.

Remco did mention in his post itt interview, that he wasn't feeling too well for the first part of the tt.

So pleased I didn't put him in my velogames team now.

More importantly I was definitely going to win the STW velogames league before Remco and Ganna got Covid!
And what was Adam Blythe saying on Eurosport something about "Thomas told him that Roglic had told him he had Covid".
Remco for the tour!

Must be pretty depressing for the others when the guy with covid still beats you

Would love to see him up against the top names in the tour

The consensus I understood was that roglič was kidding when he spoke to G - apparently someone had started the rumour he has covid. I certainly hope that’s the case cos I think staying in the race with covid would be a dick move.

Of the two Ineosers, Tao has been looking more sprightly than Geraint on the climbs so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him go on the offensive now.

Nope, it's not.

Sven Erik Bystrøm (Intermarché) tells will race Giro d’Italia with positive Covid19-test and mild symptoms:

Whilst it’s very unlikely they will cause harm to anyone other than themselves by continuing to cycle whilst positive with covid (ie whilst actually outside in the peloton), it would make the logistics a bit of a nightmare for the teams.

You wouldn’t want them mixing in your team hotel, on the team bus etc etc

Yeesh, are people really considering riding out a grand tour with COVID? Has the risk of complications/long COVID been debunked?

Cima Coppi cancelled. Looks like too much snow (not had chance to read the linked article yet)

Today's stage preview.
Hoping Cav can pull this one out the bag, he's had a rotten run of luck so far. ☹️

I see masks are now mandatory for everyone as well.

Not sure how long he can keep the jersey.

According to The Breakaway in GCN, team buses are following the race route today rather than heading straight from start to finish, in case the weather means the race needs to be curtailed or neutralised.

Looking at that weather, it may not stay pink for long.

I don't think Remco will go to the Tour, Quickstep only have so many climbing domestiques and they stacked them in Giro to assist him, with a seperate team getting ready for Tour with more sprint/ classics type guys to look for stage victories.

So i think the Giro team will all now have Vuelta as target

That weather is seriously miserable - not what you'd expect in Italy in May!
Full on winter kit for many of them. The descent is going to be SO cold!

I reckon this'll get abandoned at some point. Top of the hill maybe. Race the climb, get into the buses. To race that descent in these conditions would be insane.

I'm feeling cold just watching it!

Ug.

What would it take for organisers to mandate clip on mudguards for these conditions? Especially now with all bikes on discs.

Would be a great way to develop some truly tidy lightweight clip ons.

Riders would surely be glad of it?

Part of the fun of the Giro is that there always seems to be one stage raced in winter

Mudguards are about the least aero thing you can fit to a bike short of full on panniers.

Even the Belgians are saying this is some of the worst weather they've seen!

That's why they'd have to be mandated for all at the beginning of the stage. It'll never happen, although it would be a good idea in the same way F1 is thinking about it

Yep, a bit of solidarity, all riders benefit, less risk of tummy trouble, a cushy tie-in for a manufacturer to develop something with carbon blades, 'aero' stays and glorified hinged clamp style P-Clips rather than silly wee perishable rubber ladder straps.

Even room for advertising on top of the blades 😂

The footage from the finish line looks MUCH more like May in Italy! The race right now looks like Wales in February 🙁
