My first gig at 17 was Spear of Destiny at the Powerhouse in Birmingham, supported by Twenty Flight Rock.

I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but I saw them last week (despite liking them when I was younger, I somehow managed to not get around to seeing them – the same goes for Theatre of Hate).

Hi John, yes I did, it was meant as a to reply to you but I didn't do it properly and quote you.

Gorilla Biscuits at slay last night in Glasgow. Absolutely brilliant. They normally start gigs with a trumpet reveille but they added a bag piper last night which got everyone off to a really good start. I was just totally bouncing, best gig I have been to in ages

On youtube already

Got Voivod next week in slay and really looking forward to that

You will have a great time!

Indeed I did!

Sugar at The Clapham Grand

Bob's vocals were definitely somewhat distant from the original melody a lot of the time, but it didn't really detract from the performance.

Was the same venue where they played their first UK gig apparently. I'm not sure this can be true, but as far as I can recall, after 30 yrs and 100's of London gigs, I think it's the first venue I have been to that's south of the river and not been the Brixton Academy! EDIT; had forgotten the O2, but only been there once.

Went to see James at Leeds Arena a few weeks ago and was pretty disappointed, they played loads of obscure (newer?) stuff - even reading the lyrics off a piece of paper at one point! and missed off loads of great songs from their back catalogue. Overall the mood was fairly downbeat as opposed to the uplifting tunes they're mostly famous for.

Saw Super Furry Animals in Manchester who did a great job of playing most of the best from their back catalogue, altough the O2 Apollo is a strange venue.

Got quite a few lined up for the summer, most notably a short notice purchase of tickets to see Fontaines DC in Cadiz - we're in Andalucia this summer and they anounced this gig whilst we're there, a surprise present for my daughter, who got a Leeds Festival day ticket at xmas to see them there, so twice in one month!

Enjoy. I have been banned by my daughters from going to Leeds to see them. (as they are there) 🙁  I did see them at Glastonbury in 2024, then shortly after at Leeds Arena – IMO they are the best current band by a country mile.

Looking forward to seeing Beat at Hammersmith Eventim Apollo on Monday night. For anyone not familiar with them, the lineup is Adrian Belew and Tony Levin from King Crimson’s 80’s lineup, along with Steve Vai on guitar and Danny Carey from Tool on drums, playing a bunch of songs from Crimson’s three 80’s albums. Having seen Crimson on their 50th anniversary tour at the Royal Albert Hall in 2019, Tool at the O2 a year or so back, and Tony Levin with Peter Gabriel also a year or so back, it’ll be nice to be in a slightly smaller venue, and possibly the only opportunity to see them together.

Got Billy Fuller (Beak>) later this month, then a dry patch before Bill Callahan in October, and Tortoise, Cat Power, Bonnie Prince Billy and Mogwai all in November. Should help take the edge off the long dark nights.

Happen to be on hols in the same town as Primavera Porto starting on Thursday… so though we won’t go to the festival, we shall definitely catch some of Kneecap, Oklou, The Xx and Big Thief from the beach. Maybe Gorillaz, Viagra Boys… on Friday. Nice 😊

Gigs of a sort on Saturday night there - started off with a RSNO concert at the royal concert hall, pieces by Crumb (which I didn't know at all but interesting backstory), Elgar's cello concerto, Britten, Wagner and Scriaben (new to me) which was really great, then on to A DISCO! LATE AT NIGHT!

Andrew Weatherall (RIP) and Sean Johnson's long-running A Love From Outer Space night, where everything's a bit slower and hypnotic, touches down in Glasgow from time to time - it's been a few years since I'd been to one and, given it was on til 4, I was slightly concerned Mrs Tyred may not have had the stamina (she's no night owl these days) so we booked a taxi home for 2am to reduce the prospect of my getting carried away (I am still a night owl). Was brilliant, such a good time; Mrs Tyred was asking when the next one is. Result!

Just to top things off, I realised that Wilco's show at the concert hall in August does not clash with the Cure in Edinburgh (I thought it did) so managed to get a couple of tickets for that too. That week is going to be incredible.

next up for me is the Damned at kelvingrove bandstand. forecast is rain, so it'll be full waterproofs!

Was not disappointed. they played well, Mrs Wookie seemed to enjoy herself.

Sitting in the pissing rain for 4 hours is not fun however, but there was coffee, and pizza...

I saw System 7 and The Orb in Peak Cavern, Castleton on Saturday night.  What a cracking place for some weirdy electronic music.  I'd not seen System 7 before so didn't know what to expect.  Whirling hypnotic beats certainly widened my eyes.
