Woke to this news morning. I've watched the Rumble in the Jungle as one of the most iconic moments in not just boxing but sport. Always seemed a nice guy when interviewed. And made a decent grill when not knocking people out.
RIP Big George - one of the true greats.
Reclaiming the hw title 20 years after losing it to Ali (wearing the same trunks!) against Moorer one of the greatest sporting moments. Moorer thought he was styling on old George, lumbering around in that mummy stance. The 10th round showed him who had really been in charge all along.
Before I was really into boxing I remember watching foreman - moorer and thinking to myself, hang about, didn't think guy retire 20 years ago! I also remember the punch that won it..didn't even look that hard! But big george clearly had one hell of a dig.
A true legend..
I watched the Netflix documentary about him not long ago, he was a good guy. He made a fortune from his grill business and put a lot (most?) of it back into his community and boxing club.
Yes Foreman was one of the last boxing greats, both inside the ring and out. Foreman never made excuses up about his loss to Ali, and in my opinion, was a far better person than the Ali too. Fun fact - he named all his sons after himself.. and his daughters
Ah wow, that’s terrible news. Loved George’s attiude in his comeback, so jovial, yet with those hammer fists, to take on a prime Holyfield and last the fight was incredible. His younger days were amazing, he hated everyone!.Â
Watch this in tribute, Ali got nowhere near doing this to Frazier in 3 fights! RIP Â legend.
