According to this

where the hell do they get these figures from?

You spend 81 minutes a day. 10 minutes longer than women. Apparently. My own personal grooming would be nearer 81 seconds. What would you say your average was then?

does brushing teeth count as grooming? If so then 5 mins.
Otherwise it's 0mins daily and 5mins for a shave once a week.

Grooming - is that a euphemism, or are they including time spent on the loo reading the news/STW? "Yes, darling - I'll be out in a minute just, err, splashing it all over"

23 minutes in the shower

that's just daft.

Is there someone with OCD spending 23 hours a day in the shower and offsetting everyone else with their 5 minute ones?

My hair is shaved to a 2 so it never needs doing. I might spend a couple of mins shaving every 4th or 5th day I guess. What else is there to do?

It's not the duration that counts... it's the timing - i.e. getting into the bathroom before she does. 😀

The research, carried out for Travelodge, found that on an average morning men spend 23 minutes in the shower

23 minutes? How many times did they knock one out? 😯

Daily routine

Shave: 6 minutes
Shower: 8 minutes
Clean teeth: 5 minutes
Get dressed: 8 minutes
Do hair: 30 secs!

Less than half an hour easy, even that sounds like a long time!

Probably like 20 minutes in the shower and 5 minutes cleaning teeth a day, then about 30 mins a week shaving face, an hour on legs, and about 5 minutes decided what to wear a day (I'm thinking in terms of should I go bib longs or bib shorts and leg warmers here..).

So that comes out at about 43 minutes a day.. Dunno how you'd double that.

Grooming - mmm, that's not a word we're familiar with in our house.
It means brushing the horse to me!

The man of the house probably spends 5 minutes and that includes shaving and admiring himself in the mirror 😉

showering = grooming does it?

Well I never.

I always had grooming down as "trimming one's pencil tache a la M. Poirot" or "tweezering rogue eyebrow hairs"

Similar trend - wife took me to spa last year and end of the weekend was a facial. The "therapist" started very nicely chatting away before asking me about my facial routine. When I replied, cold water, wet shaving, and occassionally soap, she took umbrage and would hardly talk for the rest of the session. Maybe she realised I wasn't going to be a mug for the over-priced crap she wanted to sell me at the end!!

"But surely, you MUST moisturise?"

Shower - 4 times a week @ ~8 mins a time
Shave - once a week @ ~10 minutes
Daily wash & teeth clean - ~30 mins in total
No hair to worry about 🙂

So, maybe 4 hours a week?

Usually wake up half 7. Out of the door at 8, including shower and breakfast. And getting dressed, and making my lunch.

Brush teeth twice daily and full head strim every week or two, it shouldn't be this easy to look so good but it just comes naturally.

Shave 10mins x 2 in a week, shower 3 x 5mins and a bath maybe once a week. Never time that coz I fall asleep. Thats it for grooming. Spend more time grooming the dog.

Daily, 2 mins to shave, 30 secs for hair so lets say 5 mins per day to be generous.

Last night I scalped myself, which took about half an hour total. That averages out to about 30 seconds per day.

From this:

To this:

Daily:
Shower * 1 = 5 minutes
Teeth * 2 = 5 minutes

So, 10 minutes and 30 seconds per day in total.

We are (basically speaking) primates, so our time could be better harnessed by social grooming. Time is money, after all.

Prob average 10 mins a day .
2 mins in the morning . Wash hands, face, neck , spray deo, teeth .-> Go
8 mins Eve , Shower / Shave / Teeth / Scrub down and quick stretch.
Although sometimes I will have 3 showers in 1 day . Up with hangover = shower , windsurfing and getting chilled = home jump in shower , Solo night ride hard and fast = get home hot and sweaty so jump in shower.

does taking a dump count as personal grooming?
if so maybe those figures are about right
if not....
shower + brush teeth 10 mins
freshen up of undercarriage and pits with babywipe + squirt of deoderant in disabled toilet at work 5mins
wash and brush teeth before bed 5 mins

it helps that i have 0 maintenance hair and can rarely be bothered to shave

the telegraph is on the whole a pile of crap, this story further confirms it

ffs "research done for Travelodge"

I guess making up some research, getting the Press Association to put it out on their wires is cheaper than traditional advising. It has been picked up my news sites in India, which fail to mention which country the research was done in!!

When quizzed, the average adult estimated their wash bag with contents to be worth £52.23 when in reality the bag of essentials is worth nearly three times more at £156.69.

****, that's either an expensive toothbrush or can of lynx.

I loved this, though:

Essentials? God forbid they take up mountain biking & discover STW - the "what do you carry in your camelbak?" threads will crash the internet.

Oh, wait...

Well I've easily reached about 50 mins to an hour in the last 24 hrs (or will have when I get to work tonight) 😳
Cycled to work last night - shower, shave and clean teeth. Total 10 mins.
Cycled home this morning - shower, clean teeth before bed. Total 10 mins.
Got up this afternoon- quick but muddy spin on the bike- got home, shaved my hair and then shower. Total 20 mins.
Cycling to work tonight - shower and shave and clean teeth. 15 mins.

Easily done boys and girls.

Edit. Yes I have cleaned my teeth since getting up today!

Shower - about 10 minutes.
Teeth 2 x 2 minutes
Shave every 7-10 days - 10 minutes

so that averages out to about 15-16 minutes a day, maybe the average could be bumped up to twenty with the addition of a few two shower days.

Let's see.....

Shave (5 times a week) 1 minute
Mop up blood 10 seconds
Shower 1 minute 30 seconds (includes water warming time)
Get dressed 3 minutes max.
Teeth 2 mins x2

That's 7 mins 40 seconds - any more and I'll miss the train.

Maximises time in bed, any more is pointless, you can't make a purse out of a sow's ear etc.

Most days it's a shower and teeth brushing in the morning and then teeth again in the evening. If I do something during the day (run, ride, squash) there'll be another shower in there. So about 10-20 mins a day maybe?

Once every few weeks an extra 20 minutes on beard trimming/goatee shaving.

Mrs is away at the moment and the resort is in pre-season mode so my human contact per day is pretty minimal.

I think my grooming time might actually be negative. I am actively becoming less-groomed.

The 'Triple S' would only take 10-15mins and normally it's just the double S. Add teeth brushing, putting in contact lenses, and prophylactic odour management undertakings and it's change from 20 mins. Nail trimming for guitar purposes occasionally.

EDIT - 2 showers a day, sometimes 3.

i read this in the Telegraph this morning and thought what a load of testes....

what self respecting man takes more than 10 minutes to get ready?

i'm up and out of the door within 5 minutes if need be. 30 minutes is enough time to cook and eat an egg'n'bacon sandwich with a cup of tea.

metrosexuals..... meh. probably wear scarves, too....

3 mins to brush teeth
12-ish mins in the shower

Theres a foreign lass that works in the shopping centre here that approaches me whenever i go there to see if she can get me to try some hand paste stuff from god knows where. I have a laugh and tell her that it really is a complete waste of time as i have oil or brake fluid on my hands most days so it probably wont work.. but she still tries to get me to rub this stuff into ma paws. I keep explaining that ive told her in the past about the oil and brake fluid and she keeps forgetting.

I wonder if this gritty natural hand cream she tries to sell me is affecting her memory. Hmmm.

normal day is
teeth 3mins x2
bit of spray maby 20 seconds and thats me done
BUT i have to say i do savor my bath/shower time so every other day unles its a ride day il take about 15 mins in shower or a 1/2 hour bath & shave whilst in there
and twice a month il take a hour of me time to trim/shave/groom anything thats not picked up throu the week eg clippers on head and make funny shapes in my banzai tree and see if the misses can figure it out. 😆

I never understand how it's possible to spend more than 3 minutes in the shower.

Get in, get wet, apply soap/shampoo/etc, rinse off, get out

what self respecting man takes more than 10 minutes to get ready?

Absolutely.

As long as you don't smell odd & aren't naked, anything else is massive overkill.

81 minutes is more time than it takes me to get up, get the kids up (8 & 5), sort breakfasts, do the washing up from night before, ensure all things that needed to be done for kids school bags are done, and leave to get kids to school.... Somewhere in there is my 'grooming regime' and also that for the kids!

From my feet hitting the carpet to getting my coat on is about 15 minutes. Brush and tie back hair, brush teeth, strip wash at the sink, dry, dress, go. Shower in the evening and brushing my teeth again is another 15 minutes, plus shaving periodically when I can be ringed.

I never understand how it's possible to spend more than 3 minutes in the shower.

Long hair.

£156 wash bag - WTF?

I'm guessing, expensive aftershave?

My overnight bag would contain: toothbrush and toothpaste, shaving gel and razor, deodorant, hairbrush, shampoo and conditioner, travel towel, moisturiser, aftershave. The dearest bit of that is obviously the aftershave, which was a present so I've no idea what it costs. The rest I could probably replace for, what, £20-£30 maybe?
