A bit off topic, but a subject that crops up here fairly regularly, so I'm hoping to canvass opinions...

I'm in the market for a new double garage door. I think I've settled on a vertical sectional shutter.

So, I have two quotes from local suppliers, for equivalent Hormann and Garador products, price is as near identical as makes no difference, so I'm down to assessing the reputation of the manufactures.

Would anybody care to comment on which is likely to be better, all other things being equal?

Thanks!

Our door lads have fitted horman for years on very high end properties. Never had any complaints. That's all I can offer other than it being quality kit. What running gear will they use though?

I thought Hormann and Garadoor were effectively the same thing ?

Having said that, I've recently had a Hormann sectional door fitted which I'm very pleased with.

Look into the warranty on them, our Horman has a 10yr warranty, BUT, it must be serviced EVERY year to honour it, (first one free), the service quote was £66 for a wipe down the side rails with a silicone sprayed rag & a chain adjust/tension, which took 5 mins.

Thanks lads.

"I thought Hormann and Garadoor were effectively the same thing ?" I had wondered that - some of the components look very similar, and it would explain the similar pricing.

Good point wrt the warranty!

I have had two single hormann in the style just like you fitted to new build instead of one double as one side can be kept shut if wanted and have things will not be seen every time you open it !

I had a Hormann fitted 5yrs ago to our garage build. 14'6" x 7'
Excellent quality, only ever needed re-tensioning of the door springs once(5 min job).
Never been serviced and the motor and running gear look/sound no different then when new.
HTH
