Hi chaps,

Does anyone use a Garage Defender? We've had a lot of thefts in the area, we're well secured, but thinking of upping the weakest links.

Wasn't sure if they would attract theives, or act as a deterrent. I'm kind of assuming that bike thefts are now targeted and planned, so attracting a thief is less a concern than slowing them down and making it more difficult.

Are they any good though?

Spoke to a locksmith who said they are next to useless

Up and over garage doors are peeled back at corners and this does nothing to stop it and advertises that you’ve got something to steal.

Reinforce the corners with 15mm ply and fit 4 of these

Yes, they are good...you can peel the side open, but it isn't wide enough to get a bike out (smaller stuff, yes). It is a very good visual deterrent as the effort to peel the door adds time and noise.

+1 for garage door bolts in the corners, more secure and more discrete.

I have the Asec bolts plus large hasp lock in another corner. It would take some noise to break in. Remember to secure your bikes inside as well.

If you add ply, remember the door will get heavier and won't stay open. Mine won't with the extra weight of the Asec locks.
