I don't want to watch 35 minutes of cut scenes when I first load it up.

I don't want further cut scenes after every five minutes of play.

I don't want a bewildering array of submenus, maps and crafting bars.

All I want is to hammer buttons and either go really fast, blow stuff up, make fun stuff happen, or a combination of all three, for about half an hour or so. Thought-provoking puzzle games need not apply.

Any recommendations? I'm thinking maybe Doom?

Resogun sounds like the sort of thing you're after, quick and easy to pick up and play, no story or cutscenes just chasing high scores. its probably my favourite ps4 game.

Doom is pretty nuts, just don't stop moving until all the explosions have stopped. Have you played Rocket League? You could probably pick up titanfall 2 fairly cheap these days, haven't played it myself but I want to and the single player got good reviews.

Thanks everyone - some great suggestions, especially (I think) Crash Bandicoot and Trials Fusion. Based on a quick read of a few reviews Resogun sounds a bit hard 😳 . I never was a massive fan of the handling physics of Wipeout on the PS1 - I presume newer versions are faithful to that?

Just be warned, Trials fusion can be a bit like crack at times. check out some of the stuff on Youtube, especially the user made tracks, mental.

Nah, crack is much less infuriating, and less of a drain on your time

Killing Floor 2 is currently free for PS Plus subscribers, worth a look if all you want to do is mash buttons, blows things up and shoot zombies.

FYI

Ratchet and Clank the 2016 version is available for ‘free’ as one of the PlayStation+ games of the month. It was recommended above and having thoroughly enjoyed another game in the series, I thought it worthwhile giving a heads-up to anyone else who may be interested.

Anyone played it?

@gauss1777 my son and I started playing it together last night, only got to the end of the tutorial type levels but so far it is a hit! fun gameplay and top graphics.

Plus I'd add a huge recommendation for trials fusion for anyone new to this thread. It's like being a superhero version of Dougie Lampkin!
