Junkyard actually has a point here. He could well be smoking shedloads of weed because he's mentally ill, rather than the other way around. It's pointless arguing about how much the drug use is a symptom or a cause unless you're actually a doctor looking to treat the patient, which no-one here is.

@gonzy, @grum made some negative comments about Churchill and quoted a few examples. I was surprised given he was trying to say negative stuff about Churchill that he didn't quote Churchills views and comments on Islam and in particular the religions subjugation of women. Churchill was very fond of North Africa and of Arabs (in particular Morocco) but was very critical of Islam.

On the broader discussion, it's quite common for extremists to be intelligent and it's quite wrong and indeed very dangerous to assume all "Nazi" sympathisers are stupid. Sadly I know a few people who have suffered psychosis due to heavy smoking of weed, it does very strange things to your brain and would IMO certainly be a factor here.

that last bit is a bit extreme but its a very good point overall. i used to smoke it heavily when i was younger. between 4 of us we could go through a massive amount of skunk in a week easily.

we've all turned out okish...the only long term effects its had on me is that its made me a bit forgetful at times...
smoking weed isnt a good thing at all....it does have an adverse effect...in most cases the effects arent too bad but in some extreme cases it can lead to psychosis and paranoia....but this all depends on how the users mental state is before use.
if the OP's friend doesnt have any mental health issues then the effects of smoking weed wont be having a severe impact on him, but what it will be doing is putting his mind at ease and more open to suggestibility....and while reading up on the stuff that he has been doing whilst stoned he is filling his mind with pro-nazi propaganda.
therefore the drugs arent doing him any good as they are leaving him open to attack from the bullshit propaganda he is reading up on

I'm sure this is part of it. Not achieving his dream and his disillusionment with society, has had a pretty negative effect.

Yep. So-called Nazis/race supremacists are just sociopaths/bullies who half-believe that they now have a valid excuse to bully someone. It's a simple feeback loop that they feel excuses rotten thoughts and behaviours. Bully casts self as victim. Usually starts later in life for those with fragile egos that have taken a beating for one reason or another. He'll be looking for someone to take all this anger out on, whether it be online, irl, self-inflicted or towards someone else.
