So, when do we think we’ll be through testing then?
Not my depatment I’m afriad but they working hard today to get as much sorted as they can.
Well, it’s as usable as ever on my iPhone
Which, for the avoidance of doubt is not very well at all
I’m assuming what’s happened is:
-They had BBPress version-OLD
-This was manipulated a lot to do what they wanted (BBPress version-STW)
It meant they couldn’t update to BBPress version-OLD.1, or newer versions.
Now they wanted to clean everything up and move to a new version.
Sooooo
You get new functions for free (and presumably security too), but some of the stw-customisations have been lost.
In time, they’ll add back in some of the customisations and work through the bugs.
This is pretty much on the money AIUI. The other thing is that any feature add-ons and plugins require a vaguely current version of the software and wouldn't work with the previous Jurassic Edition.
I don't seem able to post new threads. Is it just me?
>as I mentioned earlier I have a rollout next week involving similar tech to this forum. Except it’s not being rolled out live – the existing system is being kept and it will be run in parallel and sandboxed for a week or so. That’s kind of standard practice for software updates when they’re business critical things…
Yup, little bit of UAT doesn't go amiss in my world. 😆
One thought..why do we need the page counters that show the 1st few and last few pages on each forum?
Surely just a 'next' button would suffice as I can't see why people would want to go to eg Page 3 as the content changes all the time.

I've just had a popup redirect. Glad they haven't changed everything.
Morning update from the tech guys here.
Yesterday's work necessitated that they do a lot of work on the live server - they needed to check everything would run under full load. Right now they are updating our local test servers and GIT repositories (technical term for a system that keeps track of changes). Once that's done they will get to work on the bugs, tweaks, developments and style issues.
To not get massively swamped and side tracked they are popping in on this thread perhaps once a day so by all means keep the feedback coming but don't expect a quick response on here. Everything will be noted though.
As I said yesterday, this is the start of something big that goes much further than the forum, but the forum is where the work needed to start first.
Cheers and sorry for the glitches 🙂
Probably been pointed out already but I see some chunky low-res logo instead of a post any time someone makes an edit. That's A LOT of chunky low-res logos.
I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but looking at some old, closed threads via a google search for fascinating advice on buying an Apple MacBook battery, the posts in the threads were upside down, viz, the last post was at the top of the page, the original at the bottom.
Still pretty much unusable on iOS - blocky avatar taking up half the screen and weird text formatting splattered around the rest. Comment composition works well enough. Seems to work ok on a desktop browser.
@DezB , harsh comment on UAT, but unfortunately on the money...
edit: actually, the text formatting is better now so long as no one tries anything clever like a quote (again, which works on desktop assuming there’s no HTML in the source in which case it becomes a mangled mess)
Some tests to see what I can do. My first attempt disappeared upon submission. I'm using Opera for Windows, which is a Chromium based browser I think. The reply box has no formatting buttons for me and its preview button appears to do nothing.

On the UAT comment.
Yes, we have sandbox and Testbed servers and a whole load of GIT systems and procedures that mean under normal circumstances we roll everything out that way.
However, what our tech guys are dealing with here and where we are going meant the normal, robust and reversible approach just wasn't possible. The system here links through to so many off server systems from third party providers of banking/payment solutions to our own in house subscriber database that is used to run the premier permissions.
We've had a legacy of developers over the years making customisations to the system that have left the state of things akin to a tangled box of christmas tree lights. To deal with that and move to where we want to be has meant some pragmatic and not ideal choices have had to be made in order to keep the lights on here. That's why the first step yesterday was the most risky and needed to be done live. Not great and yes, it deserves to have developers sucking in through their teeth at what we just did - the tech guys Tom and Andy certainly did that when I told them how we had to proceed.
But here we are and if you can give us your patience for a little while longer all will become clear 🙂
Both IE and Firefox browsers are very slow on STW.
Plenty of advertisement but not sure if that cause the site to be slow.
Preview feature does not work for me.
All the previous quote etc features are gone?
The GIT repository. Is that what you're calling the forum now?
Pardon?
[i]@DezB , harsh comment on UAT, but unfortunately on the money…[/i]
Didn't mean it to be harsh. Only in jest... I'm not [i]that[/i] bothered really. As long as the videos all come back!
Can you stop next doors dogs barking whilst you’re at it, ta.
Can someone enlighten me please, never noticed before the upgrade but that means nothing.
Whats the difference between "member" and "subscriber"?
A member is not necessarily a subscriber, but a subscriber is more than likely a member.
Member = freeloader
Subscriber = mug
HTH
how do i see the list of threads ive posted in?
Mug? How so? To know your subs helped fund this new dawn of STW should give you a feeling of pride. I just feel bad for not contributing anything towards all the new features that have been implemented.
"The system here links through to so many off server systems from third party providers of..."
...dodgy redirecting advertising spam?
Am I right?
"But here we are and if you can give us your patience for a little while longer all will become clear"
Oh ****ing A, Mark is actually JHJ and I claim my free wibble.
Thanks.
Didn't it used to be that member meant you paid? Or did I dream that?
As far as I can tell, Subscriber = Premier.
Previously, with a few notable exceptions, we were all Members (quiet at the back) whether [P] or not.
congrats on the login staying logged in. up to now at least 🙂
I cannot post any images do I am trying a single line of text as a start.
Ok, that worked, but the BBCode link from Flickr did not. Any ideas? Also the preview does not work for me either.
Also, can you change the way the page title is used... I don't need to see "Topic" in every single tab as I can't differentiate when I have loads of tabs open.
No more emoticons?

What blockquote button? I don’t see any buttons at all other than “preview” which doesn’t do anything and “submit” which does what you’d expect. Now, it’s entirely possible my “shitty script blocker” is killing it but that in itself is a problem.
The button with the quotes in the editor. Hover tooltip says it's a blockquote.
No idea if that's how to quote, but works like it used to but don't have to do the BB code (doesn't work now), but do have to make sure copied text is plain text to avoid that HTML bollocks.
There would be the problem DK... I don't HAVE an editor, just a blank form field, a preview button, a submit button and a text box for tags. It's delightfully minimalist.

😉
Lost the ability to block quote now. Firefox with the commercials restricting software off just to be certain. (Sometimes I don't login and without said software its a bit garish).

Yeah, there is something weird going on here. I think it's a permissions issue but can't work out a common denominator - from what others have said it doesn't appear to be related to whether you're a [P] or not, and isn't anything to do with browsers.
When the forum came back up, initially I was a regular user rather than a moderator (which is why I was quiet for the afternoon, I didn't think it was a particularly wise idea to make that public knowledge!). I had the 'minimalist' Post view. When my mod privs were restored, I got the formatting buttons back.
The puffer weather thread says latest reply one hour ago but the latest reply is two days old when you open the thread, unless it's just because I'm still on ie11

Ok, that worked, but the BBCode link from Flickr did not. Any ideas? Also the preview does not work for me either.
My experiments with Flickr so far suggest that the picture bit of the BBCode link provided by Flickr works, but if you keep the hyperlink wrapping it fails and your message won't post.
So the text you get from Flickr is in the format:
(url=some URL)(img)picture's URL(/img)(/url)(url=picture's page URL)Picture Title(/url) by (url=your Flickr page's URL)Flickr username(/url)
If you just keep the bit between and including the img tags it should work:
[/img]However if you leave the URLs in it doesn't. I have performed enough experiments yet to work out whether it's the URLs themselves that's causing a problem, or if it's wrapping an image within a URL that's bad.
Why on earth can i not post in the classifieds, keeps going in the same bloody loop. spent 20 mins trying to post something and just not working
Another experiment with Flickr links:
[url= https://www.flickr.com/photos/thinkingengine/ ]Chris[/url], on Flickr
Edit: What looks like a perfectly normal URL to my Flickr page seems to upset the forum software at the moment. Trying to include multiple bits of the Flickr BBCode link was doing that too, though except for this bit the individual parts seem to work.
