Is there anyway to stop the news, reviews, forum, opinion, features, magazine, shop, subscribe bar thingy from being superimposed over the words I am trying to read when scrolling down? It makes me feel nauseous. I'm on firefox on windows pc.

Also running off a single hardware server is crazy. I guess money really is tight at STW towers

You have to hope not as PCI and other financial guardians will slap you silly on summary conviction. (Summary as in it's their ball and they decide who plays and how much its going to cost if it goes wrong without reference to a court).

The rest of it is looking good though the watermark is a bit odd and the login process if you come in on a machine not logged in is a bit circuitous. I expect once the server has finished indexing it will speed up again. No Facebook banner showing on login just an orphaned underlined follow us top right.

Having unsuccessfully tried to adblock the elements appearing on the RH Side (it appears to just bump the video into the next unblocked box, which is the reply thread text box), I'd also like to request that subscribers at least should have the option to tick a box if they don't want the site pushing all this unwanted content.

I don't have a Facebook account, and if I want to look at videos or read articles, I know where to find them.

Too much header taking up half the page before you get to the forum proper.

Agree about all the stuff on the right.

The watermarking is distracting. I don't like it.

"Yes seriously… if you know anything about UX then you know not to break strong user habits that have been long established."

OK while that's generally true, the old forum was constantly slagged off by users who didn't like the user experience. I really don't think the goal here should be to replicate that. TBH I think the current issues are <totally> in keeping with the shonky STW user experience!

Most of the "massive issues" people seem to be having are with fonts, colour choice etc, yes these are annoying and worth reporting but they're basically trivial compared with the behind-the-scenes changes which are the actual point.

dog slow on safari / chrome / firefox.

The form and function appear to have both taken a massive retrograde step. I gave up after counting 14 different font styles and weights, the white is blinding me and all the content I care about is squashed into approx 30% of the screen. And it's painfully slow.

It makes no sense. I'd understand if any of this appeared to be an upgrade but TBH I'm failing to see any improvement. I guess there's a semi-sticky menu bar?

At least the content remains. At least for now - until everyone buggers off to buy some aspirin to deal with their headache caused by the background / having to squint due to turning screen contrast down low enough to make this in any way a bearable experience.

I wasn't saying the old forum was a golden design. I'm just saying that it's elementary that existing user habits and paths are taken strongly into consideration before any new feature implementations.

In the kindest possible way - none of this should have happened and as you can see from the feedback and analytics it's going to damage the forum from usability and SEO.

Why not just get a dev and UX designer in to handle the job and have no fallout?

All that behind the scenes stuff is nonsense - if this is the roadmap they are taking then I'd be horrified to see how they improve on it as the original execution is already fubar.

Anyway that's me out

Damn it they’ve been rumbled, yes there is nothing going on behind the scenes in order to bring a more functional forum software so that tweaks and add on can implemented easier.

Well they have certainly destroyed the forum for the dirty freeloaders like myself, the ads are now flashing away  like a really badly done version of las vegas and they now also appear and block half the screen on a regular basis, the ironic thing is I do actually but the mag about every other issue which is a damn sight more that a sub on here:),the ads on here are the only thing that keeps the struggling mag afloat right?

Could you put the links back at the top of the page as well for Forum/Home/New/Reviews etc?

The side bar is just an annoyance.

We know that - the point being made is that the behind the scenes upgrade is being used as an excuse for poor front end design. If I understand correctly the suggestion is that because of the way they had to roll it out they either couldn't test it, or that the testing couldn't replicate what we got when it went live. Which quite clearly is nonsense.

 to the new forum in a general sense, main criticism I'd have on the styling is to make the main font a bit heavier, it's too thin for reading at for long periods, it'll get tiring. There's other things, you could mention, but I'll wait a bit till you are finished updating.

A thumbsup smiley would be ace!

not here 😉

checking the HTML it's still defined as 'col-md-4' which is still set as 'width: 33.33333333%;' in https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/plugins/download-manager/assets/bootstrap/css/bootstrap.css?ver=4.9.2 - which is the same as I was seeing when it first appeared

You're not thinking the forum isn't perfect are you? 😉

Would it be possible to add strikethrough font to the forum replies buttons in addition to B, I, and <span style="text-decoration: underline;">U</span>? There was one on the old forum, and it got quite a bit of use IMO.

Edit - and underline doesn't seem to work. I tried the above and edited it again but still get that span crap. Win 10, Firefox, PC.

Not on on my iPad it isn't.  It takes up exactly two thirds of the width of the screen with the final third being the facebook force-feeding buffet. Same as the was last night

Losing the menu links at the top in the process?

Yep. That's an added bonus. The way they float over other text and clash gives me the heebie jeebies.

They are still available by tapping the hamburger menu which is fine with me.

If the landscape version looked like the portrait version I'd be very happy. All the same stuff is there, just in a better place.

Drop down "Forum" options on menu bar would be good.

The colour choice is poor imho. Not very clear.

Its slow.

Search function is poor.

The freshness priority in Classifieds is annoying.

I love STW, but this new layout / design has put me off quite a bit.

Search function is poor.

To be fair, that is intentional. To help ease the transition to the new forum, some of the older features are being grandfathered in to help the old timers adjust.

When a thread gets to a new page, clicking on the 'Freshness' link takes you to the penultimate page.

When looking at the foum whilst logged out there is a premier partners box/ad above the follow us box on the right hand side which changes partner each refresh. This isn't clickable, would be better if it were. Also the box is not present when logged in.

minor point but...

the pop-up banner thingy with "singletrack" and the menu burger icon makes me mad* (on phone or pc) in the same way that those slidey overlaid photos on "curated" web-pages do

I'd much rather something like a permanent couple of small icons at one side of the screen, say the burger and a "home" icon

(oh, and hovering over the freshness column used to say who'd replied and I liked it)

*not quite enough to kill, but then it's early doors; give me a week

So just checked in for my stw catch-up. Browser shows ‘Gofar Enterprises Ltd’. Thought something was redirecting my browser (Safari on IPhone SE), so closed and tried Chrome. Same thing. So the site hasn’t been hacked? Still showing Gofar Enterprises Ltd.

Shame the ‘Add New’ link at the top of the forums have gone.

Total pages (or views?) are shown for some threads, which numbers billions. Does anyone care? Can’t we just have number of pages with the first page and then the last five pages?

Adverts take up a lot of iPhone screen space. A banner style would be better.

Like others have said, colours are washed out. Needs more contrast between text and background. Quoted text is quite difficult to read.

Newfangled layout and colours and stuff for me, but still no buttons for links or images or stuff and still no change in profile forum menus, just stuff I've written or the whole forum in favourites - used to just be Tractor Trumps.

It does indeed - there was a website which even had a forum 😉 The mag came out of that original website, with the new website following shortly after
https://web.archive.org/web/20010214053604/http://www.gofar-mtb.com:80/News/260.html (founding subscriber here) It's amazing to see how far we've come.

It's been a thing on this thread since the update - though AFAIK only on this thread, which appears to have had some glitches (though the glitchy bump is better than it was). As things to be bothered about that one doesn't even appear on my radar.

As I mentioned above, it's a bit far for me, otherwise I'd happily take you up - that and I have my own DB driven website software release going on I can't really get away from (which keeps getting pushed back because the front end doesn't meet spec on the test server).

You could just provide a rational explanation of why it wasn't possible to test the front end functionality properly before releasing it - front end functionality which really has nothing to do with your back end migration (if it is that closely linked, you have far more problems than just a few forum glitches). If the answer is that you wanted to get the back end migration done now rather than wait to make the front end work, then that would at least be an honest answer which would make sense to the software devs on here.

For those wondering about the “Gofar Enterprises Ltd”, it’s because STW is (finally!) using HTTPS. So browsers like Safari will display the name of the certificate owner rather than the domain name. And Gofar is the registered company behind Singletrack.

This seems to be a recurring bug dating back years.  It keeps getting fixed, then something comes along that breaks it again.

Shirty much!

I'm not being shirty, honest.  I'm more that capable of being so (and usually apologise for it afterwards), but not just now.  Irreverent and sarcastic perhaps, but that's just me I'm afraid.  Sorry if it came across badly.

Literally nothing happens other than a little dotted line appears running around the word “Report.”

Hum.  Odd.  Are you one of those who doesn't see the button bar also?
