Always has been. Not really an issue these days is it.

Dunno, hence the query. 🙂

The issue with hotlinking is that the source website can take exception to the practice, due to their servers having to take the workload, so substitute the image with either random garbage or occasionally pron.

The poster doesn't see it because your browser cache substitutes the substitute with the correct image from the cache. Everyone else sees the pron, you see a picture of a bike, or whatever you intended.

Given images on here have all been hotlinked since the days of GoFar it doesn't appear to be a real problem - not that I've noticed. The biggest problem I've seen is with images hosted on photobucket when they changed their terms which have all disappeared. If you're bothered then copy/host your images on imgur, postimage or a similar site which explicitly allows hotlinking.

servers having to take the workload

That's why I said "these days" - who hosts stuff on servers that can't take a bit of hotlinking these days.. (apart from the obvious!)

Not seen a randomly replaced image for yonks.

Yup hotlinking is pretty much gone to the history books but Sbob knows that he’s just looking for something else to try and complain about.

For those that want to be able to edit posts (it's a bit of a faff mind you):

1. Click in the bottom left of your post, where is says how old the post is.

2. The URL will then change in your address bar - take a note of the post number at the very end of the URL.

3. Then copy the following link and bob it into your address bar

http://singletrackworld.com/forum/reply/1234567/edit/

4. Replace 1234567 with your post number.

5. Hit enter.

6. Go make a brew.

7. Return to find your post ready to edit.

Contrary to Drac's opinion I asked the question out of concern as I didn't think "bandwidth theft" was the done thing, and a quick google showed sites forbidding hotlinking which had been updated less than two months ago. It will save me the bother of alternative hosting if it is now acceptable practise. 🙂

I have no need to complain, but that doesn't stop me having the opinion that it is a monumental piss take that people who pay to use the forum are the ones who are visibly coming up with workarounds so others can continue to use this absolute shower whilst those who reap the subscriptions keep schtum from the safety of their [-]ivory towers[/-] pile of rubble.

As well as feeling incredibly embarrassed, I think the powers that be could do with taking just two or three minutes out of their day (as it's not the weekend) to keep their paying customers updated, [b]an opinion shared by many[/b], by the way.

Was that what you were trying to solicit, or were you hoping for something more personal Drac? 😉

Although I obviously didn't do it here, in another post I simply wrote my reply on a different forum that I use with working quote buttons. Makes life a bit easier if you're a slow typist that is used to functioning buttons. 🙂

at some point hopefully I’ll get access to the Chrome Webstore account though and publish updated versions there.

I may have to unpublish and then you publish it. Google doesn't make transfers easy...

Just in case nobody else has mentioned it, the option to see all my profile's forum activity is gone so finding stuff I've listed or contributed to is nearly impossible.

Don't worry, at some point between the hours of  nine through 😉 five, on a day between Monday and Friday, in the next month or two, or three, or four, it will be fixed and it will be totes ****ing amazeballs, trust me.

What update do you want to hear?  They know what the issues are, it's being worked on.  They're unfortunately down to one developer this week.

I could tell you specifically what's being worked on currently, but to be honest I'd rather not for fear of getting five pages of replies saying they're doing it wrong and that something else is more important.

Cougar now you'll just get 5 pages about how they should get other developers in and how they should drag the others back from holiday /sickness/their grannies deathbed so they can talk bollix about bikes.

I can't speak for the many members that have expressed disappointment, but I doubt the specifics are that important. I'm sure a quick thank you to the forum members who have spent time (unpaid time, even though it's not the weekend 😉 ) helping others to continue posting wouldn't have gone amiss.

One more thing to log; I keep getting to the bottom of a page (Android chrome) and accidentally pressing the insert image button. I then get the insert image dialogue box but there is no way to close it without pressing Back. This then jumps out of the thread and back to the main forum page.  Annoying.  Thanks!

OK, so I've finally sorted out the redirects from the "Replies Created" page. It's far from perfect but it works. As always this only works for Chrome on desktop. Download link as before: https://goo.gl/6h9thV

I can't promise I've not broken anything as I've not done much testing (though I've also slightly changed some other stuff).

So when you've installed that (see upthread for install instructions), if you click on the "Posted X ago" link in the bottom left of each post on a "Replies Created" page (eg mine is https://singletrackworld.com/members/aracer/forums/replies/ ) it will take you to the thread the post is on. Don't get impatient, you'll have to wait as it's downloading an intermediate page before it redirects so it will take a few seconds. It also takes you to the start of the thread.

I'm not sure there is any easy way around either of these issues client side and I'm not sure I CBA spending any more time on it - hopefully they might get around to fixing the forum at some point (though any info on actions to use with http://singletrackworld.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php would be gratefully received - I presume it would be possible to get the required data via ajax/json calls on that interface?*)

*and before I get accused of hacking, that URL is available in plain text in the HTML

Not a bug, (well to me it is).

At the foot of each page of posts there's text along the lines of

"<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 12px;">Viewing 14 posts - 1,241 through 1,254 (of 1,254 total)"</span>

If this is just done in PHP could you please get rid of the awful Americanism "through"

"<span style="color: #444444; font-size: 12px;">Viewing 14 posts - 1,241 to 1,254 (of 1,254 total)"</span>

Pretty please?

As on another thread. Oddly, doesn't happen here.

Well done aracer (haven't tried it but I bet it works and that's a particularly daft aspect of the new setup)

(crossed fingers for a <span>less quote)

Edit - nope

Edit again - has anyone got aracers script (on this page) to load?

I get

<span style="background-color: #eeeeee; text-align: center; color: #303942; font-family: monospace; white-space: pre; font-size: 14px;">Could not load manifest.</span>

[thicko]

Should I be able to magically do quotes without all the formatting text once the tools thing is installed?

And what is easyquote?

And do I have to allow developer mode for it to run? (get a warning every time I start chrome that I shouldn't allow this)

[can't seem to stop thickomode]

Yes, you need developer mode, it won't run or install without that, as it's not an official release. I'll probably push it to chvck to publish on the Chrome webstore in a day or so though (assuming we don't work out transfer), as I've pretty much done all that I'm going to do. Then it will be an official extension you won't need to do that for.

If you enable easy quoting you get a "quote" button next to the poster name at the top of each post. Click that and it inserts the text of the post into the edit box inside < blockquote> tags which should put it in a nice quote box when you post. However I've no idea if it works properly or produces funny extra characters for those who have the buttons, because if you do you have extra stuff running in the background behind the quote box which does funny things. I don't have those buttons as the scripts aren't working for me, so I don't know what it does.

You do have to enable most things in the options box - the only things which run by default are adding the links to your reply page and putting text in quote boxes back to normal size. I should really have made options for those as well, but I'm lazy and I figured everybody would want those.

Ping me an email when you're ready and we'll see what we can do with transferring (I think it might be a case of submit form to Google with email/username of person to transfer to and they then manually do it) and if all else fails I'll update it.

@Drac - Found the problem. I was trying to post with img tags to show images from Flickr, I'm guessing embedded images are not currently supported

Example (that oddly works in replies!!!) -[url= https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4747/39900134012_da1df3e0e8_c.jp g" target="_blank">https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4747/39900134012_da1df3e0e8_c.jp g"/> [/img][/url][url= https://flic.kr/p/23MQBK3 ]IMG_0060[/url] by [url= https://www.flickr.com/photos/tuttonp/ ]tuttonp[/url], on Flickr

A platform issue for me.

iPhone running iOS 11.2.1 using Safari.

I tried quoting some text, copy, paste, tried to highlight the text to clear the formatting using the buttons, but the buttons are covered by the “copy, cut, paste” black bar. Press outside the black bar or minimise the keyboard and the highlighting vanishes. So I can’t remove the formatting.

Also autocorrect is randomly adding words long after I’ve typed them. And not even making sense, just random.

Ok I admit I am not the most tech minded person but the only option I have on my iPad to submit is a box for what ever rubbish I want to add to a post. No options for pictures, video, quotes or even the little band of emojis. Is this part of the brave new world or just a personal problem?

Desktop running win 7 and chrome here.  Most times I try to post I get all the weird formatting symbols appear and also when I typed in [ quote= "jambalaya" ] blah blah blah [ / quote ] without the gaps it changed jambalya to andy which is a bit weird

Posting pictures from flickr using their bb code gives you lots of bits of code left over.

How do I get to threads I have replied on? Search doesn't work, the threads replied on thing doesn't take me back tot he thread, the reply feature n threads replied on doesn't work. Do I just scroll through until I find it? Doesn't this kinda undermine the point of IT?

I thought you didn't trust Google with your data? 😉

also when I typed in [ quote= “jambalaya” ] blah blah blah [ / quote ] without the gaps it changed jambalya to andy which is a bit weird

See @jambalaya for explanation for that (click on the link - using @ with a username now automatically adds that link, even for those of us with no buttons - though a suggestion for the devs if they're listening, it would be really clever if it automatically created a PM or some other notification).

Though I note that I'm no longer using [ quote=username ] tags as the forum now uses < blockquote> as standard when you use the buttons, so I've modified the extension to use those (< blockquote> will also nest whilst [ quote] doesn't). The XXXX wrote: bit is added as plain text by the extension.
