Just goes to show.
To show what?
I rather like the Match.com advert ๐
"just goes to show"
What does it go to show?
I'm not too sure anyone really GAS.
Is it really such a shock that some people don't follow the same sexual habits as you, or me ?
ASA chief executive Guy Parker said: "The ads that attract the highest number of complaints are often not the ones that need banning.
"Our action leads to thousands of ads being amended or withdrawn each year, mostly for being misleading, but there wasn't one misleading ad in the top 10.
I complained about the match.com advert
It was about 15 minutes too short.
You have to wonder what motivates folk to complain.
The Gaz/Leccy ad FFS?
I rather suspect that many of the complaints will have been, or at least should have been, written in crayon.
Snowflake was imo the best new term of 2016. Supposedly the ad was homophobic.
Brilliant free publicity for MoneySuperMarket and Match
The Gaz/Leccy ad FFS?
Apparently.
Some 253 people complained the ad was "excessively violent" and that it "failed to make clear the dangers of gas and electrical devices, particularly to children who might see the ad".

except it's now used to try and shut down discussion on anything and everything by suggesting the person raising it is somehow weak willed, impermanent and unworthy of consideration.
Been used that way for years it's hardly a new term.
Have I missed something good with the match.com advert?
suggesting the person raising it is somehow weak willed, impermanent and unworthy of consideration.
It's not suggesting that. It's clearly stating and unambiguously stating it. And if that's a problem then......
But seriously, it is important to distinguish between genuine grievances and those mendacious ones raised to push a political agenda
I'm struggling to see how the moneysupermarket.com ad was homophobic.

I do recall thinking it harked back to Tom and Jerry levels of violence. You'd like to think the context would make it clear that it's not meant seriously.

There's one with *girls kissing* ๐ฏ
The match.com one reminds me of a complaint when I worked in a shop.
Lady didn't like the lad mags which at the time were pretty popular and hence took up a fair bit of the magazine rack, asked why they weren't at the top with the porn. Her reason for this? There were two ladies being friendly on the front of it and her son might see it.
I resisted the urge to assure her that it was unlikely that her son would turn lesbian. (debate on objectification of people = a separate matter from this specific complaint, and we didn't have a choice what we stocked or where we put it in the shop, this was decided by head office)
The most complained about advert was a security guard dancing? Wow, I must be sooooo tolerant (im really not), it makes you wonder what else offends people.
(Most people offend me!)
Snowflake was imo the best new term of 2016.
and it's ironic that it was popularized by the most thin-skinned, over-sensitive, permanently offended snowflake in the western hemisphere, who is now about to take up the presidency.
I saw that money supermarket ad. Was confused that it appeared to be aimed at 10 year olds yet selling financial products for adults.
