We went to an 80s themed 40th a while back. The birthday boy is into American film/TV cars and he had a DeLorean and a KITT Trans Am inside the venue. We got to sit in them both 🙂
There's a feller lives just down the road from me that owns one, it doesn't get driven much but the presence of the thing when it comes out is ridiculous. Particularily when you see it squeezed into a standard wimpey garage 😆

The company I worked for used to make the wiring harness for them. Needless to say it wasn't a good business deal because of what happened. Saw the early prototype when it was shipped to our factory. Did look sweet too.

Have a look under the hood. I had a poke round one a couple of years ago and my Mk1 sierra 1.8l's engine bay looked more modern.
Not my cup of tea, but this program has been the one of my tv highlights over the past weeks looking forward to next week.

A friend of mine had one and asked to use my jeep for a couple of weeks in trade, as the delorian didn't have room for his skill saw and tool belt.
It drove like a pig on castors and the novelty wore off after about 10 mins.

See one all the time in Weymouth. Practical for the salt air. When they were released we popped down to Barclay's ( the garage) in Oxford and spent 5 minutes shooting photos of ourselves hoovering talc up our noses off the bodywork before the staff called the Bill and we had to scarper.
I was stuck in a traffic jam once on a hot sunny day and there must have been a Delorean owners club meet nearby because a saw a string of them by the side of then road broken down. Something about them though.
Oddly, I saw one in the flesh near Chester today. Looked great
I got to drive one a few years ago - there was one of those prestige car hire companies and a friend rented one.
Great fun, but some really bad design touches - the best was probably the handbrake. It was on the right, so you had to climb over the handbrake to get in and out of the car. Not a brilliant idea...
I'm really enjoying the series, the Mini Cooper was a good one too.
I didn't know about DeLorean and the cocaine deal though. The programme said there was only 9,000 DMC 12's made, wasn't/isn't there parts for tens of thousands more though? Think it was mentioned on the Wheeler Dealer's show when they had one.

common on many cars in fact. or at least on many rear engined kit cars. vaguely recall friend's classic Porsche was like that too.

There's a company in the States building them. They recently built an electric one.
seen one in a museum. They've got that lovely 1980's square / angular look and are super low. Chassis and suspension based on Lotus designs.Body panels were not structural. Built in Ireland. Arguably the most iconic car of all time.
If it worked better and didn't have the back story it wouldn't be the car it is.
My Dad picked me up from school in one when I was younger (right hand drive twin turbo). I walked straight past it as I wasn't expecting him to pick me up. Felt like a right nob when I had to open the wing doors in front of everyone.
Was looking at a list of what all the cars went for at auction.

mmm dmc wasn't it a renault 25 gearbox and v6 whacked in a fibreglass body with a bit of stainless steel cladding stuck on.
Sort of lotus esprit rip off wivout any handling or performance 🙂

Don't think the £ figures they gave included any of the parts or labour they used, just purchase price and sale price (but might have missed that bit?).
Much better 'proper' restoration work done on these than that terrible Classic Car Rescue programme with the angry cockney and the fat Canadian!

Got to say I love the look of that Princess on the previous page but that might just be that it's been lowered on some nice wheels.
I've really enjoyed this series, I'm not sure Glenister was the right person for the job, if it was a job, it may well have been his instigation but I don't think the catchphrase "fire up the quattro" qualifies him for this role and it showed in some of the terrible ideas he brought to the programme. Having said that I did warm to the guy, he seemed genuine enough even if he didn't bring any real passion or knowledge to it.
Think there was a bit too much fluff in the programmes and not enough restoration the DeLorean was a case in point as all they seemed to do was get the engine fired up and replace the clutch then get an expert in to sort the dent when there was obviously a lot more work done by the end. I guess they had to balance car geek against joe public and the latter got the lions share.
Ant Anstead came across really well, he's obviously extremely good at what he does and even if they got some specialist help in (suspect there was more expert assistance than perhaps was let on) they produced some excellent restorations. Not sure if they would have actually made any money if Channel 4 hadn't been paying some wages as there was a huge amount of work went into them.
On balance more of the cars and less fluff and it'd be a really great series.
Would any one care about the DeLorean if it wasn't for Back To the Future?

the auction show was a good idea, but the bits where the two presenters were filmed during each auction were cringey.
It was like a day-time TV show where grannies sell the family silver to pay for a cruise - I expected some orange-faced luvvy to mince in and deliver some innuendo about push rods and big ends.
apart from that a great show!
