Always envied my mates who followed Ireland in 1994 in the US. Couple of them even came back.
In 1982 World Cup Scotland played in Seville
Thousands of fans had no money but somehow got there. Many stayed. Could you imagine being a pasty white red head in the hottest city in Europe?

He’s England’s second most successful manager, in terms of going deep in tournaments
Doesn't really mean anything does it?

It sure beats failing to qualify, or going out in the group stage.
with due respect to TJ's very important thread (please sign if you can) I hope the Scots muster some dignity tonight because as a resurgent German home side opens their tournament, I am concerned you're about to have your kilt pulled up and a sausage hammered in.
I do hope not (IANA ABS, even if you're all ABE)
Yep, more excited and hopeful about Scotland doing well than interested in England/Serbia, which is a bit odd. Perhaps it's watching a couple of England's dire friendly performances recently...
Just been and got some bratwurst, black forest gateaux, iron bru and shortbread. Beers are already in the fridge. Just waiting for my son to finish work and then get him to the pub where his mates are waiting. I'm optimistic and pessimistic in equal measures depending on the time of day. If we play like we did in the qualifiers then we've got a chance. The injured players will be missed but at least our best players are all fit and we have choices in midfield. And if we do lose tonight it's not the end of the world.
This had me in tears.
Flower of Scotland was rather good!
Looks like they've just been man-shafted.
Oh dear
Scotsman flashing his tackle when lifting his kilt live on German TV was funny.
Christ, we are so bad
and that's the wrong sort of flashing tackle
This could be quite a hammering.
Evidence that there are too many teams in the tournament?
Well that's the optimism gone until Wednesday.
Evidence that there are too many teams in the tournament?
Scotland won’t be in the tournament for very long
"Alle Schotten dicht!" doesn't just apply to submarines it seems...
I'm thinking this just might be a very good German side. Got them on our sweepstake.

We lost bad as Clarke isn't really that great of a manager, and we have too many weak positions in the team, we're here as cannon fodder unfortunately, just to enjoy an actual tournament.
Roy Keane after the game was highly amusing though
Given that some have the bizarre national that by having strung together a decent set of tournament performances and with a degree of dignity as well Southgate is absolutely rubbish and a total fake who would people want as England manager? Noone is very obvious to me.
Tough game for Scotland getting on the wrong end of a resurgant germany with a point to prove tho' I predicted 4-1 at work so 🙂 for me
Seeing as Scotland failed to get an attempt on target all game, I think managing to score was quite some going..
The good run to qualify including beating Spain a distant memory! Ten games without a win now. The shape was all wrong and we were useless with the ball, just kept giving it away. Players look scared.
Hard to tell how good Germany are. Wirtz and Muisiala will be a handful for anyone.
That Musiala looked amazing. Was surprised to find out that he used to play for England at youth level! 😅
Happens a lot, Grealish and Rice played for Ireland.
@imnotanygood
you aren’t Angus Gunn by any chance are you?
Spain Croatia is pretty tasty. Very entertaining.
Spain look good.
God knows how that was a penalty. It looked like an embarrassingly blatant dive!
Good to see VAR working faultlessly again
Croatia have royally ****ed that up. I wouldn't say it was blatantly a dive, there was contact but he absolutely played on it with the intent to get the pen and sending off, which was rightly denied (double jeopardy rule, penalty is enough, only a red for deliberately denying a GS opp or serious foul play / violent conduct - which is why the scot was sent off yesterday, the tackle was a red card offence, not the penalty itself)
So they swapped a genuine open goal if he hadn't 'dived' for a penalty and no sending off. And then missed the penalty, only to get lucky with a rebound, except they ****ed that up too.
Top work, fellas.
Watched the Spain/NI friendly last week and thought they looked a handful. Goals from all over the place. Croatia should have pulled one back and given them a sterner examination though. Definitely not a penalty, easier to score than perform that elaborate a dive - and if you are adjudged to have taken down an opposing player as they stand in front of an open goal, that has to be red, no?
Funniest moment was Morata wanting to come off with injury, the youngsters playing on and him being forced to boot the ball out himself 30 seconds later to get treatment!
Was a penalty, there was no doubt about contact from behind so even if he'd also played the ball penalty would be right.
and if you are adjudged to have taken down an opposing player as they stand in front of an open goal, that has to be red, no?
No, as I said there's now a double jeopardy rule. Has been in place for a while now. About 2/3 of the way down https://www.theifab.com/laws/latest/fouls-and-misconduct/#disciplinary-action
A genuine attempt to play the ball but that results in denial of a goal scoring opportunity (DOGSO) is not automatically a red card.
If it's outside of the box then DOGSO takes preference and it's a freekick and a red card
If it's inside the box the penalty is the sanction. To also send off was felt to be punishing twice for the same offence.
If the offence itself is worthy of a red card then you can still get both (serious foul play like last night, double footed lunge), or if the offence is deliberate like a goal-line handball or holding, rather than genuine footballing mistake like a mistimed tackle, then it is still a red card.
Come on Albania!
Plenty of goals in the opening games, following an increase in goals per game in domestic leagues over recent seasons. Good to see teams having a go.
So that's 0-0 later then.....
Though Albania put up a pretty decent fight there.
Spain looked great, I don't see why they weren't one of the fancied teams. I mean, I don't follow Spanish football that closely, but every time I see the national team play there are several new 12 year olds that could make Phil foden look like Emile Heskey. They must have a factory!
Not enough T-Rexes but otherwise the Dutch are doing their thing

That Dutch thing is beautiful and shows what footy is all about, not too keen on the colour orange though.
