having some work done on the house and the bifold doors have just been fitted. I was not here when they put them in. They look great but...there is no lock on the outside. I realise now I did not specifically spec one. So the question is (before I start talking to the builders) is this usually something that is relatively easy to retrofit?
If it isn't I may just need to suck it up as we are already (you'll be surprised to hear...) quite a bit behind schedule
Ours from Lacuna came with no lock at all (they are internal between the house and conservatory), and I was able to retrofit an internal catch with no problems (the manufacturer sent me one for free, left over from a lock retrofit). Retrofitting a lock is also pretty easy but a bit more expensive. If you just need it to be lockable so that nobody from outside can get in then an internal catch should be fine.
Unless you have an access door a lock on the bifolds a lock on the outside is no good as the middle of each fold is clamped down into the tray to stop it opening. Also there's normally no handle on the outside to pull it open

right - that's known as an access or traffic door - and if one of those exists I'd expect it to have a handle and lock on both sides - but bifolds are configured "by default" without that - normally an even number of panels that only has controls on the inside
At my Mum's they are as 5lab says, no lock as you move pieces one and two at the same time. Hers are 15 years in and starting to get jammy and annoying too.
