So, the MIL wants a fitness tracker thing for her birthday.

She is totally computer illiterate so it doesn’t need to talk via Bluetooth to the kettle or anything like that. Number of steps, distance and the time are all she wants.

Price wise it can’t be too much as she also wants a framed portrait of her dead dog*.

What does the STW Hive Mind recommend?

*from when it was alive, she’s not weird.

Any of the low cost fitbit/garmins.  To be fair though they will be less useful with the app.

eBay has a mass of trackers for under £20, all of which seem OK...

Again, Fitbit are great if you can use the app. Bit pointless without.

Love ours, dead easy to use, dead easy to set up for her.

She hasn't got a phone. All she wants is to know how many steps she takes walking my kids to school.

Can she not count it once and then multiply by the number of times she takes them?

Hi HtS I got Susan a Fitbit for Xmas and it has to be used with an app of some sort, we use it through an iPad, she’s not very computer literate but says its straight forward to use. You could buy an iPad and put a picture of the dog as the screen saver instead of a framed portrait. 😊

Fitbit are ok but the straps can be a bit shonky. They'll send replacements out no quibble though.

I’ve just been informed the Fitbit watch does show you the No of steps taken on a daily basis automatically and heart rate, but little else.

Garmin Vivofit would work fine. It would tell you the time, steps, distance. Battery lasts about a year.
Think you would need the app to set it up when you get it, but you don't need to use it after that.

Nokia steel is a very good choice. I got one for the Mrs for Christmas. Looks like a nice normal watch, battery lasts 8 months and its water proof. Just those three things sold it. Super simple display and very easy to use app for getting more info.
