Following on from the other recent musical threads, what was the first gig you went to?
Mine was Toyah at Margate Winter Gardens 1982(ish)
Wonderstuff - some venue in Exeter the name of which escapes me. 1989.
Oasis at knebworth park, august 1996 - ticket was a 16th birthday present from my parents.
Got into pit 1 right at the front, on the front rail in fact, managed to get a picture of my ugly mug into the sunday times the next day, still got the paper in a box in my mums loft.
Depeche Mode.
Status Quo!!!!!!!
First live music of any type I saw (apart from bands at my local pub) was V98 (I think) when Prodigy headlined. Flamin great day that was!!! Slept nearly an hour at Euston on the way home after missing the last train. After that was Rolling Stones at Twickenham...... Gods they are I tell ye!
Iron Maiden at the B'ham Odeon.
Teenage Fanclub '91~92
Swiftly followed by EMF/Jesus Jones/Mock Turtles/Blur etc.
Ahh to be a student again....
Green Day, Manchester Apollo 1995.
LOUD!!
The Cult at Manchester Apollo 1985. At the height of their She Sells Sanctuary pomp. It was ****ing awesome!!!
No need to be ashamed Mr P, me too.
The Quo, Manchester Apollo, 1978. I was nine.
It was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me up till then!
The Verve, front 5 rows of the homecoming gig in Haigh Country Park - 33K people (park estimated 40K in reality as the organisers opened the gates in the end without asking for tickets) in a field for one band. Beck as the supporting IIRC. Nothing has compared since 🙁

The DJ's were ****ing aweful.
I worked at the park and had to litter-pick the next day lol.
Excluding local bands, Iron Maiden at Whitley Bay ice rink circa late 80's seventh son of a seventh son tour.
The Jam
then a few weeks later
The Who
1978 or 9 I think.
The Police in Leeds about 1985ish.
With the Belle Stars as support. Now that was a truly awful band. Their drummer couldn't even throw her own drumsticks into the audience, she had to get a roadie behind to launch a few pairs....
First big name band
Elvis Costello & the Attractions
edit:
It was X-Ray Spex
1) Robert Plant at NEC - boring as Fc*k!
2) Metalica at Wembley - very good.
That's it really and since then never been to any gig anymore as they are all rip off and boring as Fc*K!
Oh by the way ABBA would kick their arses ... ABBA rules!

Another for Iron Maiden here - Beast on the Road tour, Bradford St George's Hall, 1981 I think. Or '82. Aged 14 - was the scrawniest, youngest kid there 🙂
The Scorpions - Manchester Free Trade Hall 'bout '79 iirc.
saw them again 30 years later on cromer pier no original members but stiil rockin
I saw them last summer at a free outdoor gig in our local market square which was also about 30 years later than the 1st time for me too
The first major band, The Who @ The Cavern
few years ago now!
The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Trentham Gardens 1976. Not my favourite band at the time, but a real rite of passage. I was so surprised that my fairly strict parents allowed me to go.

The Farm Birmingham 1991
Stiff Little Fingers, Portsmouth Locarno. An unforgettable experience. As for the support band the Donkeys - singer was completely drenched with gob and said "Thanks you've been a great crowd" !!

you said it right there!
The only thing that makes me consider not going to gigs are the ****s waving their mobile phones in the air. I love gigs! And I never spend more than £20 including tickets!
Skid Row, NEC, I guess '91, Slave to the Grind tour.
Me and my mate Ben went. My dad drove us, was meant to go home and pick us up later... so as we waited in line to get in, who should push into the queue but my very own father having bought his own ticket from a tout outside. "oh god dad, you're so embarrassing". Actually, he's sound as dads go tho, and it was a brilliant gig.
Throughout my teenage years, he proceeded to follow us into a couple of GnR gigs, and an Ozzy one at least. 🙂
