I think I have asked this before - a few years ago - in completely different circumstances, but I need to ask again:
Does anyone have any recommendations?
When I took out a mortgage here in Cardiff, I met with a financial/mortgage advisor who was truly independent. What I mean is that, unlike some of the 'independents' attached to estate agents, or others who may only have access to 100s of mortgage deals offered by a certain number of banks, my guy was attached to no estate agent, and had access to 1000s of deals.
His advice was both encouraging and excellent, and extended to other aspects of our financial lives as well.
I would ideally like to know about someone of similar nature and competence in the Manchester area.
Your suggestions will be gratefully received.
I didn't use a guy called Paul Farrell (in Cheadle) - 07919487799
The day before i was due to sign the documents he called me to let me know that there was a new product on the market that day, that I could get if i went direct to the lender, cut him out and save a few bob.
I've recommended him to quite a few people since, good experiences all round.
He does work out of an office above an estate agents though :p
Unless you have special circumstances I'm not sure there's anything too complicated about mortgages - and there's so much info on the web to help you compare the deals.
We used an advisor for our first house purchase but just went with First Direct for our current home, highly recommend them.
I used this chap based in Chorlton. Very good and saved us a few quid. Totally independent, works out of home etc:

I used a Warrington firm last summer. Very good. In fact I need more than I borrowed so am about to go back to them.

First time I'd dealt with a broker (having always done it myself) - process was easy and painless and they could analyse the market far faster than I could.
They're also paid by the lenders and were transparent with their fees.
Thoroughly recommended.
