Almost every few days. Bite tongue while eating. Does my head in as it'll hurt like hell a day later and a number of times now I'm drawing blood. Recent one big bite, cut and lump on tongue as result for weeks and in the process, bite it again.

Anyone else find this? Is this an age thing (40 something)? Used to be something that happened just a few times a year and no cut.

It's probably caused by you being in a rush and eating quicker, however I'm also guessing that it could be a symptom of something else - so you should probably see a quack.

Yeah, tongue and lip, also 40 something. How do you feel about Shimano bottom bracket spacer diagrams?

Bottom lip for me. Fixed if I slow my chewing down...fixed for 10 days now and just have a lump as the wound finally heals.

Weird! I’ve been biting my lower lip everyday for about a week too.

Everytime it heals it leaves a lump which I end up biting the next day.

I’m trying to remember and eat slowly but then it’ll just go again.

Also in my 40s...

It's because you're old enough to be a Grandad now.

My Wife frequently bites her cheek while eating. She's done it for years.

She mentioned it to her old dentist and asked if there was any reason for it, or anything that can be done to prevent it and he laughed at her and said no.

She recently switched dentist to the same one that I see & when she went for her first check-up she was asked by the dentist if she bites her cheeks at all because of the position of her wisdom teeth....
My Wife was pretty impressed by this; basically the previous dentist had laughed off the question as nonsense & her new dentist asked if it was an issue without being prompted.

Perhaps you have a similar thing where a tooth has subtly moved and is causing the issue? Perhaps worth a trip to a dentist (who knows what they're doing) to have a look?

Every time I come up to a tricky / dodgy looking descent on my bike, I automatically stick my tongue between my teeth...everytime. I know I'm doing it, and I've got to mentally force myself not to. It's going to end badly one day.

I've had a cracked tooth removed in the last year, though biting my tongue started more frequently before that. Do have cramped mouth in teeth though. Still all wisdom teeth except one also. I don't bite cheek much though. I tend to bite down in the middle of the tongue.

Fast eating could be it. I look forward to a good meal and dive in. Does cause other issues, as also guzzling beer or wine while eating. Maybe I need to spread out eating, or go European and take hours, multiple courses and take time.

It’s because you’re old enough to be a Grandad now.

Would understand it if I had grandad false teeth. My parents generation had generally lost much of their original teeth by my age. Or maybe that's the issue, still got original teeth. Maybe less problems with false teeth 😀

If you bit your tongue, or your lip, it's swollen and immobile so you're much more likely to bite it again. It also hurts 10% more each time and makes you 50% more angry each time.

110% science fact :-p
