My girlfriend made me a board game last year, based on Trivial Pursuit, but with bikes. You move your playing piece, shaped like a shed, round the board, which is shaped like a city with a mountain outside it, and answer questions about different types of cycling. A correct answer gets a little bike, like this:

There's a road bike, DH bike, XC bike, hack bike and BMX, each representing different categories of questions, and you win if you collect them all. It's great but I've memorised pretty much all the answers to the questions, I might put out an appeal for some more.

In the 1960s edition you can go to sea, go into business, become a farmer (there's even a card that says "terrific sunset - 10 points") or explore the moon. It's very "of its time". 🙂

That lost valley of the dinosaurs pic has just brought back some great memories! In the same vein, Escape from Atlantis was cool.

Also really liked Hero Quest (which got me into the whole Warhammer/Games Workshop thing too when I was a geeky teen...)

It's hard playing it (well)! I love it: very tactile and elegant (but I'm rubbish at it). Might have to go and get my board, stones and book out and try again... (have you tried [url= http://www.goban.demon.co.uk/go/igowin.html ]igowin[/url]?

I play Carcasonne+extensions far too much to be healthy. I also really like Citadels in the pub and we started playing HeckMeck too which also works well in the pub.

People rave about Powegrid but I've never played it. Another game I recommend in Ticket to Ride (Europe) and one I'm hoping to get soon is Polarity.

My youngest sister memorised all the answers to our Trivial Persuits game and she always cheated at Monopoly, infact, she generally cheated at most board games.

My favourites were:
Mouse Trap
Escape from Colditz
Cludo

Blood Bowl. Still can't be beat. Doesn't matter which edition, they're all great. I've not played for years but I might just get this new computer game...

Other than that, the drunken family Monopoly and Trivial Pursuit games at christmas. When my brother's finally jailed, it'll be because he killed one of us after we got an easy question for a cheese.

See,the problem I had with Battletech, right... I love the background. I love the computer games. i loved played the collectable card game (I was UK champion once, nearly got a trip to the US out of that). And I even liked the clix game, though it was for kids. And I've got most of the novels, even the really realy bloody rare ones from the dawn of time (actually, I should sell those). And I even have some of the figs, and loads of tech readouts, map sets etc. But the board game is absolutely, heroically s**t. IMO 😉

I love trivial pursuits but we're a bit ****d in our house now because
1) The NZ edition is full of questions on things we didn;t grow up with or know about
2) The UK versions are all of things we don't know about
Our copy asks questions about the USSR its that old !

Space Hulk for me. New edition came out a couple of weeks ago.

A new edition? I'm still running on the very first, plus Deathwing. Sterling stuff. I'll have a look at the new one.
