I've been asked for a friend, who is starting a livestock trading company in Germany, to help with some translation work - German into English.

Now, my English - she is not so bad, but there are terms for livestock that I am not totally certain about. Can anyone help check that the following are the correct, recognised terms for various types of moo cow:

-bullocks and heifers
-feeder calves
-springers and cows
-fattening cows
-all sorts of fatstock

-weaners of German origin
-fattening bullocks and heifers
-fattening cows
-Fleckvieh and crossbreeds from the 14th day
-Holstein Friesians from the 14th day

-newly calved cows of various breeds
-gestating heifers
-suckler cows of all breeds

IIRC, Welshfarmer has a German wife. And he's a farmer (duh). Maybe PM him.

Are you trying to have a translation table in the op? It's not very clear. Maybe number the terms.

The only one that looks out of place is gestating heffer.

Don't recognise the two items "from the 14th day" other than that they are all valid terms for cattle if slightly odd English in some.

More checking to see if any of the terms are not correct, for example the:

-Fleckvieh and crossbreeds from the 14th day
-Holstein Friesians from the 14th day

as pointed out by Whitestone ( thanks ! ).

There's a whole load of other text for the website, that another friend has translated and I've checked as a native speaker, but neither one of us is certain about the different categories/types.

Turns out that Fleckvieh is a breed of dual purpose cattle.

If you want to pm me with the original German I can check the translations or offer more appropriate ones (if necessary). As stated above I am both a livestock farmer and have a German wife & reasonable German language skills (I used to translate German scientific texts to English as a side line when I lived over there)

Bad times ahead for the meat industry. Better off investing in plant based foods.

Just listen to a few episodes of The Archers and you'll soon pick it up.
