It's a shame they couldn't get LaFerrari (which would likely be quicker) but it's a good watch all the same and has kind of the opposite outcome of Chris Harris' effort.
Very interesting test 😆
It's helped me make my choice - just got to win the Euro Millions now 8)
I still can't decide. Need a journalist to tell me the Ferrari is best. Oh and I need to win the Euro millions.
That was worth a watch. The tyre squirm at ~ 8min in, great footage.
P1 for me.
Was looking forward to seeing this on Top Gear.

....making Clarkson hit him. What an inconsiderate tool eh 😯
Search youtube for Paul Bailey. Going to pick up his La Ferrari in his Mclaren, then taking both to pick up his 918. He has quite some garage
Meh.
Needs more men in sheds. Making stuff like this;

Number 37 of 40. Proper muscle. No committees, no accountants, no focus groups. Just blokes in Newport Pagnell, wearing brown coats hopefully, saying, can we get any more out this old horse? And answering "Yeah, I reckon we can!".

Quite.
If only he had done his job.

Win the euro millions and buy them all 🙂 it would have to be the Maclaren for me

You mean if it wasn't for that tosser Clarkson. I'm kind of glad someone/anyone else will probably end up doing that test. I'd much rather see it on 5th Gear, Chris Harris, Motor Trend, Evo etc etc as it'll be about the cars not some comedian's ego.
^ me too...or a silver Targa.
Not even a 4S @bikebouy 😉 ?
BTW not surprised to see you post a white car to go with that gold phone of yours !

It's 'proper' muscles aren't very muscly these days.
"Cough"
That's "silk white" I'll have you know, it's got a hint of Grey in it so it's not white at all... Think "hint of.."
A simple, light, lythe, un complicated joy of a machine 8)
The 4s is a bit too big and too shouty for my subtle taste 😆
Having been luckily enough to drive a P1 quite a bit, it's an amazing car, but wouldn't be on my Lottery list. This is what i'd get:
You lot can scream round in your P1's/918's/lala's and i'll just chug round in that^^^^^
(any car that can make that fat, punchy yobbo Clarkson look good could do wonders for the rest of us 😉
^ Pirelli P6000's. I'm out.
@maxtorque, lucky you in the P1 - I'd rather have a 650 mucus elf and keep the substantial change. Is that one of those "e type replica" jobbies which cost around £500k ? I know someone who bought one.
myself = mucas elf ... that's an autocorrect classic
@bikebouy I drove a 4S and it did feel a little that way which was partly why I got the Cayman S which was much more nimble, that and the fact it was half the price.
The problem with the 4S is you've got the additional bulk and weight but no real additional power to work it. I love Porsches, but for me the 911 is mostly about the simplicity of a basic Carrera or Carrera S or the full on, neanderthal, chest beating macho-bonkerness of the 911 Turbo. Anything in between is a waste of time IMHO and you're much better off with the Cayman or Boxster.
These modern supercars are a step too far for me. Even if I could afford one they leave me a bit cold. They're just so so much better than my driving talent (or lack of) so what's the point? It just becomes a numbers game and meaningless in terms of a real world experience. Utterly pointless in reality, which explains why the vast majority of these cars will be bought and boxed up in a garage for the rest of their lives as investments rather than cars that will be used, abused and driven as they are intended. At least with a basic 2wd 911 Carrera you've got half a chance of driving it on a track close to its limits and have some fun.
If you're rich enough to afford these things you're way past cars. You're into Gulfstream G650's and Luxury Yachts. there is not a car expensive enough to impress in the circles these multi-billionaires mix in.

50kg in the context of 400bhp? hardly a big problem when it'll actually allow you to put that power to the road, especially if conditions are anything other than perfect.

That's the perception but the odd time I've spoken to someone who owns these cars they've been as obsessed as me. I met a LaFerrari owner who had a massive collection (inc 12 Ferraris) and was like a kid at xmas telling me about taking delivery of his LaFerrari. The same chap takes his F40 into town every year and (for a donation to charity) gives punters a run up the road in it. The police close the road and turn a very blind eye to 100+mph speeds.
Even in the realms of P1/918/LF there will be plenty who'll thrash them. Bernd Pischetrsieder apparently commuted at 200mph in his F1 fairly regularly, Jay Leno, Rowan Atkinson have racked up 10s of thousands of miles in theirs.
did I mishear the bit at the start about them having found a ferrari owner willing to donate his car but ferrari stopped them from using it?
I was on the fence about these three cars until a black 918 S rumbled past my house two hours ago. Absolute incredible machine by far and away the prettiest car i've ever seen
bearnecessities - MemberI'd buy one of these again and spend the rest on a boat*. Why the hell I ever sold it is beyond me. Best car I've ever had.
I "had to" thrash the living shit out of one for a film. Lovely drive.

Yes I think that was the gist. It might seem like bad form to most, but if they've created what they believe is the superior product (and it looks like they have) they might be sniffy about some journalists writing it off as inferior to the other two, perhaps over a trivial oversight like tyre pressure or driver preference.
