If it helps The Onion reports real and satirical stories.
It’s the future.
Result for Denmark not having the tosser pay a visit. Fair play to them - they tell him to get stuffed and he gets the message, we toady around giving the tool a bells and whistle reach around tour then bend over grateful to receive a trump sized portion of chlorinated chicken (and other delights) as part of our 'trade deal'.
"Essentially it's a large real estate deal"
The real Trump.
Is the OP story any more bizarre than the fact that DONALD TRUMP is the president of the USA?
Wait until he finds out it's not golf theme park.

There's a business opportunity. Just buy a golf course in some miserable cold place, rename it "Green Lands", and offer it for sale. Get some people dressed up in Viking costume to stand around when he turns up to inspect it to make it authentic.
I think they've already done that just outside of Aberdeen.

The quotes in the Onion one are the joke, rather than the headline.
It doesn't sound very bizarre to me. Greenland is an autonomous territory not an actual part of Denmark. It costs Denmark a fair bit to support the population, sure there's plenty of nature resources there but Denmark might not be in a position to utilise them. USA offered to buy it once before $100 million just after WW2, I wonder what the offer would be now, wouldn't you want to hear it even if you had no intention of accepting ?
Certainly strategically, especially with the climate warming buying Greenland makes perfect sense for the USA, makes sense to at least show an interest in doing so. They did after all buy Alaska and Louisiana.
Generally I would expect some behind the scenes discussions as opposed to a tweet and then Trump throwing his toys out of the pram when they politely say no thanks.
Its also not Denmark's decision to make. So addressing it to them rather than Greenland really did start things off on the right foot.

Indeed thats how things are normally done. But Trumps famously thin skinned and this isn't exactly polite.
Ms Frederiksen said the suggestion was "absurd" and a spokesperson for the Danish People's Party said this was "final proof he has gone mad."
Nothing to do with Obama speaking in Aarhus. Nothing at all.
I am coming to the conclusion that Trump is Performance Artist and we have all been taken in for all this time. He is, literally, incredible.
To mangle Twain, it’s better to remain silent and be thought a malignant narcissist than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.
“I am the chosen one,” Donald Trump declared to reporters Wednesday on the White House lawn, looking toward the heavens.
