Right ive an 1800s cottage thats been extended multiple times mainly by block and render.
Ive no damp
Ive pressure washed all the walls and removed all the loose paint render and cement
I think its had years of sandtex on it.
Im going to repair the render and then what? Im thinking pva and then more sandtex masonary paint unless anyone has a better suggestion?
Can highly recommend Tikkurila paint.. it's more expensive but the quality and finish is far superior. Or if you you don't want to pay for that.. Bedec ain't to bad either
Check the destructions, but not PVA IME. Sandtex will have a better suggestion
In the best traditions, I use Johnstone's Stormshield masonry paint, 15 year warranty that worked for me
Sandtex still good, as is Johnstones or Dulux. Just go for trade quality rather than retail, and don't use pva, use a proper stabilising solution if theres any need to. it was always a rule of thumb to not use stabilising solution on new render, only on chalky surfaces
Sandtex is supposed to be breathable paint. Although thats moot if your rendering. Don't think it needs any undercoat on new render. Just leave a good time to let the render dry fully
Ive some blown render to fix but mostly its old paint and stone
I use this on bare render before painting, really helps to seal any dust and give a solid surface for painting.

I m painting mine with sandtex masonry. It's on offer at 20 quid if you buy 2 at paintwell, open a trade account you get a further 20 percent off.
Brilliant white looks a bit samey so I got a tint of farrow and ball wevel, a v slight off white tint. Looks really good.
3 coats in, just roughed up old surface to get a better key.
I chose sandtex as manager of paintwell said all trades use it, plus it was offer.
