Anyone any bright ideas for extending our fence to comply with a really annoying requirement for a 6 foot fence?

Currently have a chestnut fence which i love and I really want to not box in the garden so thinking trellis or something. ITs going to look shit I realise this but we do want the dog!

If it turns out to be a jumper I'll do something more permanent but if its super chill/fat lazy bastard it might "fall during that storm"

Something light and airy, i like plants and stuff so could grow suitable things along it...

Never understood this requirement. Every time the place is inspected for the next Dalmatian arriving we get told the 3 foot fence is not tall enough. Boundaries are set on arrival and in 26 years we've not had one go over yet even when the cats head that way to escape. The current one likes to jump up and watch the guinea pigs play next door!

Got a photo of your existing fence? But yes trellis sounds good, assuming you can attach and support it effectively. As it's only temporary then it doesn't need to be too solid, and can be constructed to meet summer weather only.

A less obtrusive solution might be to add 3 or 4 strands of horizontal wire to the top. The sort of thing farmers do with barbed wire, but obviously use plain wire instead.

I would guess in practice it depends on the dog/background especially with rescues who might be flighty/anxious/confused about their new environment and may not twig to the rules that quickly or where the owners may not be 100% on the ball.

Rehoming rescues the centres understandably won't want to take unnecessary risks / will wish to cover their backsides on an escapee and not much will clear 6ft.
