Anyone got any experience?
Just general light exercise, toning, strengthening that kind of thing. That you can do at home.
shagging
General house work is always a good start.
pelvic volvic pick-ups
exactly how it sounds, use the vagina muscles to pick up a 5ltr bottle of volvic mineral water from the floor, repeat 120 times.

I have something similar on one of hard drives somewhere.! 😳
I was going to say swimming, but I'm assuming you don't have a 25m pool in your gaff...
Swimming is meant to be one of the best exercises for pregnant ladies though. The water supports the body weight and helps make movement easier and more comfortable. There's a pregnant woman comes to my local pool regularly, and she looks fantastic, really healthy. She's about 7-8 months gone at least, but still manages about 20-30 lengths or so.
So get yer missus to the local pool.
Why can't youse lot be respectful and helpful? 🙄
I can just imagine Mol;
'Ear, love, this lot recommend you try picking up bottles of Volvic with yer Fou-Fou...'
He'll get a heavy glass ashtray thrown at his head.
My wife used a DVD called "complete pregnancy fitness with Erin O'brien" she really liked it and found it useful.
i reserve the right to not always be helpful, shiboleth's gran fought in the war for my right to not always be helpful.
Yoga/Pilates, though you'll need to be selective with the moves.
Bike washing is pretty good 😉
Sexism in action. Don't be crude about Mrs Grips please!

Yeah, google is a bit of a minefield of rubbish tho as is Amazon.
mrs toppers did yoga and swimming until a week or so before toppers jnr was born. right up to the point that she physically couldnt do it anymore. said it really helped her both mentally and physically.
Crankygirl is going to a specific up the Duff Pilates class and enjoying it .
Mrs Holmesey just got various up the duff pilates vids through
says they're good
and swimming. most pools do ladies only sessions too

Riiiiight. Mrs Grips. Have the bigger boys been calling you pregnant again Molgrips?
Just pile drive them into the floor. That'll teach 'em!
if anything im being sexist against men as i've recommended an exercise that can only be done by people with vaginas.
i'd give the same advise to my mother, she'd be wetting herself laughing (mainly due to poor pelvic floor muscles due to not doing my patented pelvic volvic pick-ups)
GW was worst.
i'd give the same advise to my mother
You know your mother. Different. Plus this is a public forum.
He'll get a heavy glass ashtray thrown at his head.
She's pregnant, that's going to happen anyway.
If he's lucky he'll be awake when she does it.
why would the fact its a public forum mean there's something wrong with my post? your opening post didnt state you were looking for advice for your wife young man 🙄
most women i know have vaginas, they're not rare scary mythical beasts that men aren't meant to mention for fear of invoking their wrath and destruction upon the village people.

Racist.
It's what your post could mean to other readers. Vaginas are not scary but they are somewhat personal, no?
Anyway that is all I am going to say about it.
Racist.
Homophobe.
Bike washing is pretty good
She can do it on the balcony to get some fresh air too 😉
Has she tried yoga?

Won't someone please think of the vaginas!
do not mention the appropriate medical term for the female reproductive hole jamie! it is however ok to refer to it as a "Fou-Fou" apparently.
Mol - is it worth maybe asking this over on mumsnet? i'd imagine by the name that there's quite a few women on there who have been pregnant. western white middle-aged overweight IT workers tend not to be the best source of information on ladies i've noticed.
Won't someone please think of the vaginas!
I do, all the time.
Mol - is it worth maybe asking this over on mumsnet?
There are a lot of people interested in and/or qualified in fitness related pursuits on here though.
Did you check Mumsnet to see if I posted there too?
why would i check mumsnet? i was suggesting an idea not stating that you hadn't already done so.... chill winston
Did you check Mumsnet to see if I posted there too?
Well that didn't take long.
I am chilled.. but I am not asking mumsnet I am asking STW 🙂
I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition.
I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition.
Well to be fair, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition.
Self restraint would have been an appropriate exercise but it's all a bit late now. 🙂
When Mrs Shep was with child, we tried doing pelvic floor exercises without raising our eyebrows. 'Tis impossible I tells thee, go on try it.
Well my SO was racing and doing quite well in the Marin Winter Series when she realised there was going to be a little Tasso along later in the year. So had a good nosey around tinterweb and asking many experts in sports science and the like what to do about training, when to stop etc.
Turns out that unsurprisingly there isn't much real evidence to say what level or type of exercise is good/bad or just ok for preggers people. Prospective mums not being that keen on doing comparative trials to see what's what.
The first two or three months are probably the most crucial but she continued training and racing through that time and was riding an MTB until very obviously pregnant. This included a tentative descent of the easier sections on the Grand St Bernard with Bike Verbier.
We both think that the high level of fitness helped no end come the birth but we had a few words when she fell off the MTB a few times and she eventually gave in and took it easy with some gentle cyclepath riding.
Ok my wife is probably an extreme basket case but yours should just do whatever she feels comfortable with doing. I'm sure her body will let her know when enough is enough.
I have to concur with GW's original comment though - that can be as gentle or exuberant as you like and preferably it's a shared experience good for you both 😉
Lordy, this one's gone wrong in't it? 🙄
Geezer's asked people not to be rude about his wife. Why can't folk just respect that, say 'sorry mate I was out of order din't mean to offend', and be done with it? No, they have to try to look clever...

Thanks for the relationship advice 🙂
...his Mrs could just be reading all of your 'thoughful' responses...
Congrats to the Grips family by the way - life changing but rewarding in so many ways and I never thought I'd be one to say that!
congrats mrsgrips! any chance you could have twins? i'd be really appreciative of anything that might possibly reduce the statistical possibility of mrsconsequence having twins!
no sorry, tho it does run in our family I seem to have lucked out this time
...his Mrs could just be reading all of your 'thoughful' responses...
I am in no doubt you are both in the same room and tutting in unison.
left the laptop on in the kitchen again.. tsk tsk.. 😉
damn, well congrats to you and mol anyway 😀 are you due whilst in germany, or do you think you'll be back in the UK for the birth?
either way i hope mol gives us a running update on the birth like many other STW'ers seem to, that way all the guys can give advice like "dont look down the business end, its like watching someone poor paint-stripper over your favourite bike" and such.
I am amazed you Neanderthals have learned to read and write let alone use key boards..
-Phil- back in the Uk 3 weeks before birth

Molgrips. Control your woman.
*runs*
I was not squeamish last time - it was all very interesting. I seemed to take refuge in my inner scientist to control the emotions.
Last time there were updates on labour on facebook, which got her whole family to sign up 🙂
Don't go too far Jamie, you won't hear your mommy call you in for food.
I'm due to have my first baby in just over 2 weeks, I've been doing a bit of pillates and yoga throughout to replace some of my riding (just not so much fun when I'm terrified of falling off and then later on when I have no useful diaphragm and limited lung capacity). I'd never done either before so joined a class and from what I can gather there are quite significant modifications to what you can do when pregnant (like changes to stretches so you don't damage yourself as your ligaments are loosening) so I would recommend either joining a pregnancy class or finding a pregnancy specific dvd/website. Lots of people from my yoga class who have now had their babies said what they learnt in class was really useful in early stages of labour too and some of the stretching is coming in useful for loosening the aches I'm beginning to get from carrying all the extra weight around.

Touché.
I'm planning on being down the business end with my helmet cam set to 60fps@720p so i can run it in slow motion 8)
Slow motion? How quick do you think it happens?
I really hope Volvic bottles don't have those sharp-edged beer bottle tops 😕
couple of minutes start to finish? can't take that long for a baby to pop out surely!
that's abt right phil, and no matter what people say babies DO sleep through the night from day one
this baby malarky will be easy, set up a water bottle like in a hamster cage and get on with your life til they're old enough to contribute towards the bills and earn the right to join the adults for food. 😀
Make sure you set up the brightly colored toys dangling overhead to keep them busy..
Hi honey.
I did a fair bit of research on this when I was pregnant and I found that there was not really anything conclusive about recommendations. A lot of places said keep your hr down below 140, but then I read other things saying that didn't matter and was old advice. I just decided to carry on doing what I felt comfortable with. I carried on riding my bike till about 26 weeks, then just concentrated on the gym and did swimming later on, and brisk walking. I tried to take it reasonably easy - not get too out of breath and drink plenty. If you are looking for something to do in the house, then I have heard a lot of people say Davina McCalls pre and post DVDs are v good.
They would have to be really good to put up with watching Davina McCall. Surely being pregnant is tough enough without having to endure Davina McCall?
I'm using my husbands log in but here goes.
I mountain biked up until the day before I went into labour. We live near the lake district and continued to mtb on our favourite trails there then when I got massive we went to more trail centres as I could go round the red-black runs once then have a sit in the cafe while my husband went round for another loop.
We had to move the saddle forward, raise the stem and put some more air in the rear shock nearer the end. The shock has been tf tuned since. We managed to bottom out my husbands shock when he gave me a backie around my village.
I really love mtb and continuing kept me healthy and fit for labour. I had a very easy home birth.
I also kept walking and swimming.
Since my daughter has come the biking has tailed off (sadly) but the walking continues and the weight has come off a lot easier as I kept my fitness up in pregnancy. We have a tout terraine single trailer now so we can get the little one out with the bikes.
Mtb is part of who me and my husband are and something we hope are daughter will enjoy when she is older. It felt very natural to continue throughout pregnancy.
I mostly stopped doing drop offs when I was 6 months (the odd small one didn't hurt) and would push down anything I thought I could possibly fall on. I did get lots of funny looks from people when I was out, nobody was rude to me (which I was worried about) and lots of men were very shocked when a heavily pregnant lady passed them on the downhill/uphill sections of trails.
It was the red at Llandegla that I rode the day before I went into labour. I know its an easy trail but it was no problem at 38+2 weeks pregnant.
Good luck and keep it up.
Lovely..
Mrs Grips couldn't have done Llandegla Red even before getting pregnant the first time and all the health issues...
