Given that I have to visit retailers and shopping centres for work right now, I give myself little chance of getting to the end of tomorrow....but what the heck, I'm in.
Normal town centre trips are almost over for the year, it'll all be down to the music choice of a certain out-of-town outdoor retailer I'm helping re-fixture for the next 10 days.

Oh shit, I listen to the radio in the car too.

Already out. We had a early present opening for Mini, Micro and their cousins today as they are never together at Christmas. It was the first song that come on in the YouTube Christmas selection.

In but not feeling confident; there's already been talk of the so called "need" of Christmas songs last week at work.

If I can get though this week I am on a week long advanced chainsaw course all next week. Chances of hearing anything there are zero. And radio reception round here is so bad no chance in the van either 🙂 However, I bet I don't make it though this week!

Was out before it even started, 5hrs in A&E on Saturday afternoon with Magic FM (do you even need an FM when it’s via the interwebs) being piped in playing nothing but Christmas tunes, think we heard everything at least twice...

5hrs in A&E on Saturday afternoon with Magic FM

That's one way to discourage people from frivolous visits to A&E.

I'm in - all my Christmas shopping is done, except for food. The risk of 5Live exposure is a bit worrying though.

Only danger is if i go in the local hypermarket. Shop is so massive that if the song started there’s no way id get out before the chorus. Headphones must be remembered if i go in there... apart from that I never listen the the radio, so I reckon I can make it.

ps. is senor j thinking there’s an autoplay function on the forum??

Just for clarity - it's as soon as you recognise the song? @DezB seems to suggest it's chorus only, or are you saying you wouldn't recognize it until the chorus?

In a way that would be even funnier - seeing people legging it out of shops leaving families and trolleys stranded at the first few (very recognisable) notes to avoid hearing the chorus. And you'd need to be quick as it's 2 choruses before the verse so you only have the intro to find cover. Seconds, probably (I would play it to check but that would be like being a suicide Whammer)

“Shop is so massive there’s no way I’d get out before the chorus” - just meant I’d hear it, the shop is big.
Rule states you’re out as soon as you recognise the song, which is probably about the first 2 notes.

Too late for me.

I was in a local independent shop a whole week ago. Had to have strong words with the shop assistant, that I'd been Whammed well before the expected date. :0)

P.S. Next door are playing Fairy tale of New York now.

clarification on the rules please – until you recognise the song or until you hear the chorus?

recognise the song, still. It's been a year. It wouldn't surprise me... yep:

Too late for me.

I was in a local independent shop a whole week ago.

Playing that rare groove? As per OP: the game starts on 1st December so not lost yet. Though still. Once bitten and twice shy...

I'm out - was idly flicking through the radio stations when on it came.

As an aside, regarding the video - why George went on a group skiing holiday with his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend is something I'll never understand.

They had to keep up the pretence so as not to negatively effect record sales. Different times. 😉

No, really, I don’t. Not Wham!, or GM. Sue me.
Pretty sure I’m out already, because I’m surrounded by cars, most with their radios on as soon as the ignition is turned on, it’s inevitable - most are on Radio 2/Heart FM/ Breeze/Whatever FM/Blah FM, etc. I just try to shut it out of my mind, pretend it never happened.

And what a strange track it is really. The music's just a little synth loop that goes round and round, underneath the tension and release of George's singing, with a lyric that very clearly draws on Shakespeare's best sonnet ("Since there's no help, come let us kiss and part"), whilst Andrew does what he does best...

I'd prefer this game if it was one of the other obnoxious tracks of the original 1985 'Christmas tape'. Sooo much shit that it's sometimes a relief when Last Christmas comes on!

Anyway - I reckon I've in with a good shout. No christmas dos and no christmas shopping to do.
Only fear is that it'll be on in the pub, or a DIY shop.

I’m definitely in. This should be a breeze. Do all my shopping online and never listen to the radio. Sonos at work in an office shared with three people. None of whom are likely to play Christmas songs.

As soon as I get in a car! Sitting there quite happily* when it suddenly hits me what I've not been listening to for the last 40 seconds. 6 days, disappointing.

*as happily as I can be sat inside in a murder machine belching fumes into the atmosphere amongst many of its kind stationary in traffic.

Had to avoid putting the car radio on. Got withdrawal symptoms, so starting singing to myself, including a rendition of LC (the power of suggestion), thought I'd scored an own goal but just checked the rules and I'm still in!

I shall now go and put a CD or 2 in the glovebox. This week I will mostly be listening to Rage Against the Machine.
