What would be a good city/town to visit for a weekend, that isn't one of the obvious (ie Barcelona, Paris ect) destinations.

Rotterdam, plenty to do, and if bored, Delft and Den Haag a short hop.

You can do Vienna and Bratislava in two days - only 20odd miles apart.

I like Ypres. Short distance from Calais, too. The WW1 stuff round there is really fascinating (and sobering).

Bergamo, Tallin, Lille or Cork. One of my cousins reckons Derry is a good place to visit but she works for their tourism team.

Lisbon +79

Just a smashing city. Compact, cool, friendly and for a European capital, quite cheap for food, coffee, beer etc.

And Pastel de Natas - I was worried I’d turn into one after spending a few days. 😀

Pastel de Natas

You can get them in Farncombe co-op. Not worth a long weekend though.

Verona or Florence, good for wandering about looking at stuff and eating food. Sitting in squares drinking beer also good.

London is the biggest shit hole on the planet, I would rather go to Calcutta.

We go to Bordeaux every couple of months or so, plenty to do there for a weekend. Otherwise, San Sebastián, Bilbao, Girona, Granada all dead easy to get to.

London's no good, two days isn't long enough. I lived there for 12 years, so need a week there every so often to get a fix of what I miss about it, and also to remind me why I left...
