Looking for ideas of locations in Europe where we can get a balance of flatish walking (maybe around lakes or at the top of chair lifts), flat lesuire-type cycle options and a swimmimg pool (and some warmth, though going in late August so not a major issue) for me to continue rehab 4.5 months on from my ACL knee op; but also with the option of p20 hiring either a road or mountain bike for some decent riding for 2 or 3 days whilst I read etc.
Not looking for a city break, more hiring a AirBnB in a nice location, with good food to relax and look forward too, which allows p20 some adventure and me to build on my rehab.
Suggestions welcome as normally we just look for places with the biggest mountains! Happy to fly for a couple of hours and hire a car.
Please seriously consider Mecklenburg.
It meets all your requirements and has some wonderful places to stay. Go to Rostock and you have a lovely Hanseatic city to explore, while even Berlin is driveable. But the countryside, above all, is very congenial, with forests, lakes, and farmland all around. Flat, with a great deal of walking and cycling.
I love it, and would buy a farmhouse there in a heartbeat if opportunity arose.
Thanks Saxon. I'm thinking this is an opportunity to go somewhere we wouldn't normally, so will certainly take a look.
Or the Italian part of Switzerland, Locarno and Lugano. Cheaper to fly from Milan and if you go in July you may see the Moon and Stars festival.
We're off to Polish Tatra at Zakopane.
Not been yet, but on the surface it's mountain resort with lifts etc, lots of walking, good road cycling and some MTb trails (not many though) and waterpark/pool place.
We partly chose it as we could go direct from Edinburgh, meaning travel time is very reasonable.
