Will this be another one of those red lines that the Brexees always threatened to walk out over, but won’t?
Regardless, it will be the fault of the Leavers for not "getting behind" Brexit. As always.
[I blame Brexit for the Forum woes as well].
<p>>Sod the power generation bit. nuclear medicine will be completely screwed.</p><p></p><p>Both as important as each other IMO</p>
Wind produced more power than nuclear in the UK the other day...
And the point is? Could you remove nuclear from the balance, what's going to fill the gap when the next fee power stations get turned off, energy security is not defined by 1 day
They are not power cuts they are green intervals.
A pretty accurate somethingion of this whole sorry farce from Gina Miller in todays Guardian...
Extend the Brexit transition? It’s just another non-starter
Strangely fifo, mike, zippy, I’m just off to talk to people today about keeping lower voltage networks running when the higher voltage ones are dead. So perhaps not in my lifetime, but probably in my sons’ we will start to regard energy as something you harvest, not something you produce, and if there’s no generation today, well never mind, there’ll be some tomorrow and it won’t affect you in the meantime.
Yep, let's see if we can keep the lights on for the meetings while you sort it out 😉 next up I propose using the excess heat generated by mail and express readers by feeding them more fake news while they are connected to some sort of microgeneration system
I think this is the first time that Corbyn has actually made Brexit the subject of his questions at PMQ’s
As pointed out, that is not true but asking questions at PMQs is pointless anyway. Not sure what the goal is as the answers are pre-prepared and largely have nothing to do with the question. Most answers just say how much better the tories are than labour which is not answering the question and to be fair to Corbyn he didn't support a lot of what Labour did under Blair anyway.
Brexit is a struggle for May to answer as Labour didn't do a Brexit so she can't say how much worse it was when Labour did it.
Have we started building the world's biggest lorry park in Dover yet? Or are they just going to dot portaloos along the M20.
Nice to see the Torries stuffing the Lords with Brexities.
ooh - the moggster is getting a bit concerned. Please let May call his bluff...
how biased is that as "news"
Agreed! Not even news in fairness - I just like to see Mogg whining.
It's easy for Mogg calling from the wings, to say the government needs to show more backbone in negotiations.
It's not a question of being a hard negotiator when everyone knows there's no leverage in the negotiation.
There are literally no cards to be played. It would almost be funny if he did get into the hot seat, the second unelected PM in a row, and watch him crumple like a cheap packet of crisps.
I suspect he wouldn't be stupid enough to go for leadership, though, he's probably got some sense of self preservation and is quite comfortable and happy heckling from the side lines, a bit like corbyn.
It's easy to shout about anything when you're not really accountable.
That's coz they know the temporary backstop won't fly, ultimately they are bricking it coz after 2 years, the brexies still don't have a plan, just gotta keep fooling the leave voters a bit longer.....

Surprised no one mentioned M Carney and the brexit cost to each UK household .
Only £900 - clearly either a price worth paying or fake news...
I just like to see Mogg whining.
Give me 15 mins alone in a room with the utter cockbag and I’ll have him crying out for his nanny/wet nurse
If it's not hurting it's not working.
Oh, sorry, wrong bonkers Tory policy.
Only £900 – clearly either a price worth paying or fake news…
and we haven't even left yet ho hum
Looks like we are 28th in line for a trade deal with Australia and New Zealand.....
Think the Fox was caught napping.. .
To be clear.... when they say we’ve all lost 900 quid, is that all of us?
Does it include the boomer pensioners who overwhelmingly voted for it, and are the only demographic in the U.K. to actually see their real incomes rise in the last ten years?
Don't you worry Binners the private sector care system will strip them of their wealth.....
<p class="story-body__introduction">The post-Brexit customs system favoured by Boris Johnson and other leading Brexiteers could cost businesses up to £20bn, officials have suggested.</p>
The chief executive of HM Revenue and Customs told MPs firms would have to pay £32.50 for each customs declaration under the so-called "max fac" solution.John Thompson said any new system could take up to five years to fully work.
A "functioning border" was possible by the end of the transition period but he said it would not be "fully optimal".
Kerrrching!

The key to Post Brexit Revenue generation - Capita and the likes will be rubbing their hands
So… quite apart from the annual cost of that fantasy scheme… what exactly can be ready for next year? Ready for a "better than a bad deal" no deal exit?
Eeerie silence from the brexies.....
Danish lady married to a British man for 39 year (a Councillor & one time mayor of Ipswich to boot) denied citizenship.... Brexit really is making us look like muppets!
She was a LibDem councillor though… perhaps the purge of the unbelievers has begun?
It's about time those greedy exporters were hit hard with a tax.
Those ****er bringing foreign FOREIGN dirty ****ing money into this country.
Ban all exports I say.
We explicitly voted for it.
Danish lady married to a British man for 39 year (a Councillor & one time mayor of Ipswich to boot) denied citizenship…. Brexit really is making us look like muppets!
Not just muppets - note the reason for her rejection:
"She said her rejection was on the basis of her not having a permanent residency card, which has been obligatory since November 2016"
and compare with the gov website: ( https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-a-uk-residence-card )
"You don’t need to apply for a document to prove you can live in the UK unless you’re both:
.)from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland<span class="text_exposed_show">
.)an extended family member of someone from the EEA or Switzerland"</span>
<div class="text_exposed_show">
This high profile case will no doubt be sorted. But what about others who were not city mayors, and don't get their face in the papers?
</div>
I know Klunk already noted this, but that trainwreck letter from Dominic Cummings is well worth a read:
You can dance around the fundamental issues all you want but in the end ‘reality cannot be fooled’.
Aaaah ... Dominic Cummings. A face you would never tire of punching
Summed up nicely by Nick Cohen in Sundays Observer
Nick Cummings - the true cowardly face of the Brexiters
At least Godfrey Bloom is being honest, the point is to get the foreigners out.
Brexit exposing brexiters (& the nation's) hypocrisy again & again

Godfrey Bloom the man that made UKIP squirm...
Sooo customs union until 2023 and probably free movement, no trade deals, change of government another generation of old farts gone.
All change...
Good
if that is the case.
Sooo customs union until 2023 and probably free movement, no trade deals, change of government another generation of old farts gone.
Not really, if Brexit isn't stopped by next March the UK is out of the EU. It may be in a permanent limbo, but which company will invest without certainty.
Unless May proposes something acceptable to the EU for NI or accepts that the backstop deal she made is binding there will be no deal, no transition and we crash out in under a year with nothing in place
The whole shambles is beyond a joke now.
Crazy thing is plenty of people still think brexit's a good idea
Still some laughs to be had at our misfortune
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/may/25/brexit-boris-johnson-dominic-cummings
Its interesting watching the slow decline of "sensible" Brexiteers, the gradual withdrawal and what we have left is the Reese Mogg, Redwoods and half hearted Boris and Gove even Liam Fox has virtually disappeared.
May and Davis are desperate to keep the Party together as they know if they let Boris and Mogg in it is the end for them.
They know they can't deliver it, I wonder if they would prefer to loose a general election? And let the opposition cope with it then shout at them?
We are in a period of desperate politics.
We'll build our own satellite system! With hookers, and blackjack!
I think we are going off a cliff face with Brexit - nobody could be as inept as this Gov without it being deliberate!
I disagree. Its a toxic mix of wishful thinking, incompetence and dogma
From the "You couldn't make this stuff up" category:
Daniel Hannan, earlier this year:
And now:
Daniel Hannan Backs Second EU Referendum If MPs Vote For Customs Union
Oh, and a deliciously ironic quote: “I had assumed that, by now, we’d have reached a broad national consensus around a moderate form of withdrawal that recognised the narrowness of the result,” he said.
Remind me, what happens when you assume?
Pretty brazen arse covering from Hannan there , much like Cummings.
The desperate scrabble of those responsible to blame everyone but themselves for the shitshow. Just shows how arrogant they are that they don't have a shred of humility
especially ironic as Hannon (IIRC) it a far right ultra leaver
especially ironic as Hannon (IIRC) it a far right ultra leaver
I don't know. I think his position seems to vary with the weather.
Would you prefer definitely staying in the single market or risking a second referendum ?
We could end up with Remainers voting for brexit and leavers voting for a chance to stay in the eu.
Have we done the latest?
In the Sun today:
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6423932/david-davis-northern-ireland-brexit-plans-dup/
The "Customs Partnership" is now apparently dead.
And "MaxFac" has had the fancy non-existent Unicorn-based "technology" abandoned.
Leaving...David Davis proposing a 10 mile buffer zone with joint EU/UK rules. Or some such.
You can say whatever you like, but eventually your lies and half-truths run up against reality.
customs partnership and max fac were never alive. Both options are not acceptable to the EU and that was made perfectly clear
And as we plummet further through the la-la-land Brexit looking glass....
Brexiter Nigel Lawson applies for French residency
You couldn't make it up!
Have they done anything towards keeping "our" rights to live and work all over Europe yet? Or is it just the rights of money and goods (and the rich) to move that matters? Not that they really have a clue yet what to do there either… clearly…
Small piece of good news… looks like the new and improved Erasmus scheme will be open to our kids in future still. Genuine good news. Of course, might not get bar work etc to help pay for time spent at a Uni abroad… (but once again, the kids of the rich will be just fine).
Uh oh… I can feel a rant about Corbyn coming up…
some progress but not much. Most EU countries will accept UK citizens on a very minor bureaucratic proceedure if the live there on brexit day, no onward travel rights tho
An interesting courtcase going on at the moment at the ECJ where a bunch of brit ex pats living in the netherlands are asking the court to rule if their rights as EU citizens can be removed or not. A decent chance of winning which would mean UK citizens would still have all EU rights if they hold a EU passport including fredom of movement and right of appeal to the ECJ no matter what the UK government legislates
I'm waiting for all the brexies to announce that Italy's dodgy government heralds the imminent collapse of the EU....?
I thought Soros had some good tjouthou on what the EU could do to address the immigration problems that are causing trouble in italy & elsewhere.
Lawson is a hypocrite, but is too rich to care
Is that court case saying that an eu passport would be required or would it apply to everyone born before brexit day?
As effectively we have had our citizenship removed dezpite the passport.
Would this be likely to lead to the associate membership that has been mentioned before
graham - hard to say as we don't know what the ruling will be. could well be tho
this is the court case. They won the right to get an ecj ruling
I’m waiting for all the brexies to announce that Italy’s dodgy government heralds the imminent collapse of the EU….?
https://twitter.com/europeelects/status/1002135592061333504?s=21
Wouldn't Davis's latest cloud cuckooland Border proposal be about as palatable to the DUP as abortion and gay marriage.
Remind me again who May is totally reliant on to prop up here shambles of a government?
Hmmmmmmm....
Or is it just the rights of money and goods (and the rich) to move that matters?
Are you new around here ?
Correct Binners - also unnacceptable to the EU
Suggestions that BoJo might be wibbling (again I suppose)
Wrong thrrad
The people of Wales voted for Brexit, hoping to open up new markets beyond Europe. How are Port Talbots steel sales to America going now?
Like they were thinking about it that deeply...
How are Port Talbots steel sales to America going now?
On the plus side at least they will be able to get additional EU deprived area funding. Oh wait.....
Brexit looks like it is going well, no food, no fuel, but we will have blue passports, just no way of. using them hey ho.
So the DUP have seemingly reiterated..
The leader of the DUP has warned that her party will withdraw its support for Theresa May’s government if it adopts a Brexit deal that sees Northern Ireland treated differently from the rest of the UK.
Arlene Foster said ensuring Northern Ireland maintains the same rules and regulations as Britain was a “red line” which if crossed would lose the Conservatives the critical backing of her 10 MPs.
It comes as cabinet ministers are still struggling to find a solution to fulfil two of Ms May’s key Brexit pledges – keeping the Irish border open and leaving the EU’s customs union.
So what, we have 3 options.
1. Withdraw the A 50 notification.
2. The government will collapse resulting in a GE that Labour are almost guaranteed to win, but they'll have the same poisonous chalice to drink from, that would prove interesting.
3. The government will secure a deference or extension of some sort, in other words, kicking the can back up the road again.
My monies on 3.
Why would the EU kick the can further down the road? At some point they are going to want clarity and a decision. Why keep on fudging?
Most likely option I think is an EFTA type deal. acheives nothing of course. either that or a government collapse
there is no chance IMO of the EU allowing decisions to be kicked down the road apart from if there is a collapse of the government.
Most likely option I think is an EFTA type deal.
Which doesn't meet the December agreement on NI. Has to be such that NI remains in the SM and CU.
Ironically, the DUP deal was needed to by May to achieve Brexit, but their red lines are blocking the whole process.
Surely a GE is now inévitable ?
indeed mrmo
hard border willend up in the irish sea May will have to shaft the DUP to get any deal
the two options being argued about in cabinet at the moment are both unnacceptable to the EU
I suspect she will shaft the DUP relying on labour votes to get it thru.
The “most significant publication on the EU since the referendum” (according to that wisest & most learned of political sages David Davis)
has been delayed until em, sometime in the future
no wonder business has turned against the government
An interesting manifestation might actually be the downfall of the DUP, they want the same rules as the UK, as long as it's not about abortion or gay marriage.
That could be May's justification for stitching the DUP up, but the Conservatives would then lose thier majority forcing a GE.
It's a right cluster ****. Always has been.
It's almost like none of this has ever been thought through in a considered manner. It's just been one reactionary knee jerk after the other.
