Bystander apathy, that’s how we roll.

That combined with the "EU is punishing us" and "Plucky island nation that won WW2" narrative.

Tide is turning, 6 months is a way off. Merkel and Emily thornberry both talking openly about delaying. Tory party meltdown is coming. It can all happen very quickly towards the end.

Frustrating to have to watch it all play out for 2 years when the ending was so obvious.

I was in Workington this morning (my home town and on the face of it Brexit central - also Labour heartland). Nice demo in middle of town in support of a second referendum...

It's happening more and more, all the promises of easy deals and walkovers are evaporating and the very real chance of a hard brexit is looming, given that was a complete minority fantasy even those who voted leave are questioning what is going on.

Perhaps we are moving from No Deal is better than a Bad Deal to Remain is better than No Deal or a Bad Deal

In other news,

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/robert-mueller-brexit-referendum-fair-vote-uk-theresa-may-legal-challenge-inquiry-a8559621.html

''The prime minister rejected calls for a public inquiry into the integrity of the referendum process last month, arguing it was a thinly-veiled attempt to overturn the result of the Brexit vote.

However, senior MPs, including Damian Collins – the Tory chairman of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sports Committee – and shadow culture secretary Tom Watson, have said the UK needed a probe similar to special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 US elections.

Mr Watson said: “Mueller has shown that we need to follow the money – and the lies – to get to the truth about how votes are unfairly won.''

the very real chance of a hard brexit is looming

Funny how the language has changed. 2 years ago 'Hard Brexit' was not being in the single market and customs union, no deal brexit was 'Chaotic Brexit', yet now it's just 'Hard'. When did this happen?

Hard Brexit and No Deal are being used interchangeably. They’re not the same thing.

It’s another illustration of how clueless some people are about the whole process.

If Rees Mogg were elected to be leader of the Conservative party, given that it would, in the absence of a General Election, make him the Prime Minister of my country with no mandate to be so, i would consider that a declaration of war.

One would happily be historically thought of as repulsive.

May is on Marr just blathering. She said she wants to hear what objections the EU team have to the Chequers proposal. What? They haven’t said yet what their objections are? Seriously, after all this time?

She then said they’d told her what the objections are and then again said she wanted to hear what they are?

Trying to keep her little boat afloat. I almost feel sorry for her.

Looking forward to the Conservative Party Conference. Should be tremendous car-crash TV.

The Blond Buffoon knows that if he’s going to launch a successful attack for the top job, the timing means it’s now or never.

Is he overrunning Poland, or charging the guns at Sebastopol?

The Tories are a shambles, you have Bojo unable to answer a direct question truthfully, and Maybot basically embarrassing herself, EU must be really pissing themselves laughing at this performance

My Aunt and cousin are ardent brexiteers and live in Moggs constituency - they think the sun shines out of his backside.  NOthing can disuade him despite the fact they keep posting on faceache memes about lack of funding in the NHS and Moggs known desire to privatise it!

These are intelligent people FFS.

Or… make it clear he thinks we're "doing Brexit wrong", wait for the inevitable mess that will follow (any kind of) Brexit… then step in to take over, when the Conservatives will be more than happy to eject May.

2 leaflets through my door the other day. 1 extolling the virtues of the current government's spending record on the NHS, bigging up the Brexit dividend that they'll be pushing that way too, in addition to the additional contributions we'll all have to make to preserve the service we love. The other was a 'do you think you can trust him' attack on Corbyn.

Conservatives preparing for an election?

This. He can scream like Farage from the side saying everything is being done wrong without having to propose anything sensible.

Enough people will believe him but I am not sure they are eligible to elect him as party leader.

never fall into the trap of believing that educated or otherwise sensible people have the ability for rational thought when it comes to voting. It’s all prejudice, fear of change and whoever looks alright on tv

So, this icky ‘festival’ thing. Are we making entry for British citizens only (in keeping) or are we going to drop the pretense and just put up a big ‘Whites Only’ sign?

Assuming it is going to pay lip service to the reality of 2019 Britain, I can guarantee you there will be a mock-up curry house. But it will be flock wallpaper and the waiters will have 70s hairdos because that’s back to the days when ‘they knew their place’.

Brexit stinks.

David Mitchell on Boris:

nice article but Ian Hislop put's it more succinctly

people always ask me the same question, they say, 'Is Boris a very very clever man pretending to be an idiot?' And I always say, 'No.'

Oh come on, May and Mogg doing the Lambeth walk in their Pearly King gear will be well worth 120 million.

Every time Peter Bone opens his mouth I’m staggered that someone so profoundly dense has managed to get himself elected. Then I start wondering about just how shit-thick racist your average voter in Wellingborough is?

I imagine it more as rich oligarchs being able to buy licenses to hunt cockneys in a post apocalypse east end with a Dickensian theme.

A Festival would be ok but what we really need is a Great Exhibition. Much more redolent of halcyon days when men where men, women knew their place and children went up chimneys or down mines.

After all the "mutual respect" pleas from our government the other week, our Foreign Secretary now decides to compare the EU to the USSR, and a prison. How to win the Eastern countries (not to mention the Germans) over to "our" cause. FFS.

GammonWorld on R4Today this morning - apparently we paid our debt to Europe by "saving them" in WW2, so no need to pay any "divorce bill".
