Does anyone else think a 'reader' mode that just displays the text would be a great thing? Have a couple of (Apple Newstand) subscriptions and I'd have thought it would be possible to display the text in a way that isn't just an electronic version of the print layout, and can be read more easily on a small screen?
(Not meant as a criticism of ST, haven't used the app version yet)
A reader mode would be murder for advertising.
The kindle version is basically exactly that

Hadn't thought of that. Maybe the reader mode could be done on a page-by-page basis, so the reader flicks through the mag as they do now, then swap into reader mode. Flick onto next page and it goes back to the print layout?

Yes, but not referring to ST (Dirt, in this case, so I can feel unworthily sub-gnar) and can the kindle version be accessed without a computer, anyway?
That's what available on the Zinio magazines that I get. Bike, Canoe n Kayak etc. At each article there is a text box, tap it and that's what appears. end of article back to normal.
Thanks - I suspect I'm faced with a limitation of Newsstand (which is a bit crap, but very easy to buy stuff for through iTunes) unless anyone knows differently?
The best reader application by far is the Economist App in Chrome.
Just superb. Ive seen so many rubbish apps with fancy turning pages, crap rendering, awful navigation and slow load times. The Economist app pre-loads quickly, flows smoothly and promptly and is really easy to jump around sections. It also has a spoken word version that downloads simultaneously so if you want to just shut your eyes you can plug in and it plays the article to you.
