So I've binned the booze and now I'm kicking the evil weed.

I picked up a couple of electronic cigarettes the other day (made by 10motives) one menthol one regular and I'm really impressed. I've only used the menthol one so far as I used to smoke drum gold with mint tips and I actually really like the "draw" from it, it's a lot like a shisha pipe with mint tobacco. Plus it has the added bonus of being able to "smoke" in cafés, bars, aircraft and other places normally deemed illegal.

Anyone else use similar and what's the deal with not giving up and just sticking with stories and pretending I'm Sam Spade Robohunter

Just don't smoke it on a coach. You'll get mistaken for a terrorist.

You'll get mistaken for a terrorist.

And as soon as it's fairly clear that you're not, they continue to send every available unit from all 3 services, shut all roads within a 10 miles radius and clear the airspace for the next 12 hours

I use the rechargeable type and buy my liquid separately to keep things cheap.

http://www.skycig.co.uk/

£50 starter pack but there's discount codes out there to bring that down to just over a tenner.

I get refill liquid from here: http://www.liberty-flights.co.uk/

I highly recommend the cherry and apple XO flavours.

Enjoy smoking, don't enjoy having shagged lungs.

For me E-cigs aren't about quitting nicotene.

Acidchunks - I've just ordered the skycig starter kit on your recommendation and from their site I was under the impression once the cartridge runs out you pop a new one in. Are you saying you can refill these cartridges with the XO refills on liberty-flight site? Thanks

Certainly can, its a little fiddly but very simple to do. Eventually the carts will become less effective/die but for £3 for 5ml (which easy does 15+ refills) its far cheaper than £11 for 5 new carts.

Remove the cartridge from the battery, pop the white top cap off the cart, remove the clear rubber o ring seal then drip the fluid (it comes in a small 5ml dropper style bottle) into the plastic mesh inside (being careful not to get any down the central tube). The fluid will sink into the mesh so take it easy and just do a few drops at a time until you get the hang of it.

The replacement liquid comes in a few strengths, I usually go for the 14mg as I found the 8mg a bit on the weak side.

Did you manage to find a discount code? I suppose should have really dug it out for you, sorry!

Thanks AC, looking forward to new flavours, might even start 'smoking' on my commute once it arrives!

Unable to find a decent discount on the £50 starter kit after a couple of searches but then Skycig site gave me a promocode for the £20 starter kit. The only difference I could see between the 50 and 20 kit was that it didnt show the 20 in a glossy presentation box and only came with 3 carts, not the 5 in the 50 kit? Anyway, got the £20 starter kit for £10 and ordered 12mg classic tobacco cartridges for £10.95.

Like yourself I like smoking but dont want any of the associated costs and downsides so here's hoping!

Thanks again

AC...might be a bit of a how long is a piece of string question but how long do the batteries last before recharging needed?

Ah welcome to the world of Vaping, been smoking 30 years, giving up for 15 and never have I felt so free of tobacco as I do now. Only problem is I'm now addicted to vaping but hey ho.

Soon you'll ditch the cig-a-likes as they are pretty cruddy and get yourself a decent bit of kit, you don't really have to spend any more than the laughably overpriced cig-a-like kits but you get a much better battery, a better nicotine hit and possibly another expensive hobby.

Find out about variable voltage vaping, clearomisers, rebuildable atomisers, cartomisers, mods etc. I'm only beginning to get a grip on it myself after looking into it for about a month.

If you're going to spend that sort of dosh you're much better off with something like an ego-c starter kit.

Even if you don't want to go all in there are much better kits out there for you for about £20 than the crap that 10motives will sell you, although they are pretty useful for backups.

There are a few very useful message boards out there, all about e cigarettes, UK Vapers, and some others, feel free to ask questions.

Out of genuine interest, after so long without cigarettes,, presumably without any nicotine substitute for some time now, what got you on to the vapour cigs?

what the legality of them? Are they completely harmless and classed as safe or is it just haven't been banned yet?

Someone at work has recently started e-cig-ing, (now inhales a hell of a lot more nicotine than he used to) and was told not to use it in the pub across the road, due to other idiots seeing him and sparking up rather than anything against e-cigs, but it got me thinking

Ah I obviously didn't make it clear, "giving up" for 15 years means trying to give up for 15 years, whether it was an hour, a day, a week, a month or a year I always went back to the smokes.

It's like the old gag, "giving up fags is easy, I've done it loads of times".

Anyways so I saw an advert in the Metro newspaper for a "free" Gamucci e-cig, found it worked ok but I was looking into different ways to refill the cartridges and stumbled upon the world of vaping.

They're totally legal in the UK, how long that remains the case wait to be seen. I think we're at the start of some sort of vaping boom however once the government notice too big a drop in tax take and the pharma companies have lobbied them hard enough I'm sure they'll be banned for "health" reasons.

NICE say

NICE, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, has just launched a new consultation on draft guidelines for people who can't quit smoking. (and presumably people who don't want to quit smoking)

The main body of the draft is based around NRT (gum, patches, lozenges etc) and it is now recommending that people who cannot quit should use these products to "cut down".

In terms of electronic cigarettes, NICE say this:

"Advisers should inform people who smoke that some nicotine-containing products (for example, electronic cigarettes) are not currently regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency and so their safety and quality can't be assured. However, tell them that these products are likely to be less harmful than cigarettes."

NICE will not recommend e-cigs, because they are not a medicinal product, but the change in policy is significant - Advisers should tell them that these products are likely to be less harmful than cigarettes - this is a step forward from "we cannot recommend them", the previous policy.

This is guidance forms part of a consultation that will run between 24th October and 19th December 2012.

The final outcome is due to be published in May 2013, co-incidently, the same time the the MHRA is due to anounce a 'light touch' regulation of e-cigs.

Ah, that appears to be a cardboard box instead of the fancy plastic one..I doubt that'll charge up the battery.... 😕

As for battery life, it depends on how much you use it. I reckon anywhere between 12-18 hours of normal use. If used heavily it'll be more like 2. There's definitely a drop off in how much charge it holds but it took me a year before I wore out my first set of batteries and charging pack completely.

Compared to the 40/day I used to smoke, it's tiny.

I don't know what Fags cost these days but I'd guess I would be spending close to £15 a day now ?

It costs me less than £15 a MONTH in juice for my e-Cig.

(Last real cigarette was 1st Feb 2009)

The hardware can cost quite a bit if you become a hobbyist but if you discount that I've no idea tbh, I've bought loads of different flavours trying to find out what I like, however I just bought 30ml of Decadent Vapours Mentholyptus (yummy btw) for £13, will easily last a month.

After 20 years of 20/day rollie smoking, I started Vaping last April to get off the fags, still using it now but haven't touched a real one in over a year, which I know from past experience for me wouldn't have lasted with cold turkey, patches, gum etc (first night drinking and I always lapsed back)

You're riding will thank you for giving your lungs a rest

Mixing your own Juice from Decadent Vapours (once you know what flavour you want) works out at well under Half the price of the pre mixed stuff. And uses exactly the same ingredients.

I use their Menthol flavour and mix it myself.
Just worked it out, At the strength I mix to it would cost £6 for 30 ml.

And I called and spoke to the guy in their lab and he told me the exact ratios to replicate the pre mix stuff 🙂

As my Ex used to always say as a regional manager for a smoking cessation company in partnership with the NHS, the long term effects of leccy fags are untested/unknown, but it HAS to be better than the long term effects of proper fags.

A friend of mine has completely stopped using these for ages and ages now. More than a year. Trouble is, she shows no signs of actually giving up the electric fags as of yet... 😕

It's not for me.. the missus went through a mid life crisis and started smoking to keep the middle age spread at bay!!! As per most people, exercise just seemed the last option so she took the easy way out !

I'm hoping these will get her off. I hate the smell.. do the e-cigs smell?

Mine smells of extra strong mints - if your up really close.

Other than that, they don't smell at all.
