I've organised a trip for a group of engineers to Scotland for the British superbike round at Knockhill but we've got a couple of days spare.
We went to the Falkirk wheel last year & fancy visiting the Forth bridges, thinking train to North Queensferry & possible walk back over the roadbridge - any other suggestions for a day out to visit the area.
The walk between north Queensferry and Dalmeny station is fine over the bridge but its a couple of miles. A bit dull but you as engineers will be fascinated by the bridges I guess.
The main museum has a working ( air powered) huge beam engine in it - another engineery thing
Secret Bunker near Crail
Nice pubs in south queensferry. Might be a trek from the bridge.
A cruise ferry trip from South Queensferry to Incholm island is a nice trip, especially if the weather is good.
There's a visitor centre thing in the traffic Scotland building south of the old bridge that gets used for official tours (another geeky engineer here...) Not sure if it's open to the general public or not but would be worth checking.
Just go on the lash in Edinburgh.
Contact ICE and see what the can help with, likely they can sort something out. There's a boat trip on 22nd for example.
If you contact the bridge operator (Amey) they may set you up with a tour given you are a bunch of engineers. I'm sure they do stuff like this for schools and students etc.
