Big band of cloud over Mount Malvern. Not going to shift far anytime soon either by the look of it. 🙁

Its got quite dull outside though. Ah well, I'm going to make a toastie to make up for it ...

A few holes poking through occasionally though - got a glimpse 5 minutes ago, and actually it's looking a bit thinner now.

edit: just got a really good view

Here's my viewer - tube about 1.5m long with a bit of foil and pinhole one end, viewing sheet on the other (hold in the side to see that)

Getting dark now.

The Horwich locals over the road have started chanting and sacrificing goats in the street. Again.

BBC has some good coverage, especially of the people on Lewis who have travelled from around the would to look at the cloud. 😆

It's cloudless here on Cannock Chase but the sundial has stopped working.

I've made a pinhole camera out of a sheet of A4 which my grandson and I are enjoying using.

You get a better view by staring at the sun for 30 seconds. When you close your eyes you'll have a perfect image that you can keep returning to all day.

Getting light again now. The guy over the road with the dead goat is looking a bit foolish.

Hard to tell whether it's finished, or started for that matter. A dirty white van blocked the view from my desk for a few seconds, and was the same colour as the sky.

It definitely got darker here. Cloudy, but at times the right consistency to act as a filter - taking the sting out of the sun but just about thin enough to see through it. A thicker cloud moved over just as the sliver of sun got to its thinnest though.

Just grey and gloomy here in Hampshire. I'll just have to make do with memories of '99 down at Portland Bill.

Will it still get noticeably darker - I assume so?

Seriously?

Turns out that the type of cloud we have here just now is precisely the right kind to filter out most of the light from the sun today making for an exceptionally good filter. Stunning stuff.

My sister seems to think it's a bit disappointing. She is a moron.

Hardly went dark here in Brizzle. Nothing like as dark in 1999. Bit of an anti-climax tbh.

Here in Wilts the sky just cleared enough for a bodged pinhole to show the crescent. Yay.

(edit) And a neighbour is celebrating with a smokey garden fire: how truly Wessex.
