Clearing skies here.
Looking forward to it, our team at work are heading out with a cuppa, cake and some pinhole viewers.

Light cloud here too.

Got a meeting at 9:30, will try and reschedule for 9:45 and go and stand in the field over the road to see if the bird song drops off.

Maidstone is grey skies as well. Which sucks because I have the schools telescope primed (with solar filter).

Annoying doesn't really cover it.

You wait ages for the sun to come out and the bloody moon comes along and spoils it. Typical.

I've got a load of eclipse glasses I got for the passage of Venus a few years ago. I was hoping to make a profit this morning but it's 100% cloud.

Which won't work because the camera won't be able to deal with the level of contrast.

Welding mask all the way for me.

It'll give you a rough idea especially as it gets closer to the full eclipse.

Welding mask all the way for me.

I have one in my pocket all the time.

Digital sensors just don't have the dynamic range unfortunately

I have one in my pocket all the time.

Well, I've just bought the lens with me! Far easier to get hold of than those eclipse glasses that are recommended.

I also read somewhere that a colander can be useful (for viewing the eclipse that is)

Another option is to find a tree which is in leaf and look at small the patches of sunlight projecting through. They act like tiny pinholes. We watched the total from the bottom of the gorge de verdon with a tree projecting thousands of images on to a vast wall of limestone.

No sacred Ganges to plunge into, and the Thames looks a wee bit cold. Relief that its cloudy and overcast then!

Will it still get noticeably darker - I assume so?

Sunny here in Cardiff 🙂

About to ride to work so will be a bit strange as it gets dark. I'll probably pretend it's the beginning of the zombie apocalypse for a bit of fun, lights fully charged 😆

So what's the difference between admiring a good sunset and looking at an eclipse? You don't wear fancy goggles for the former.
