Clearing skies here.
Looking forward to it, our team at work are heading out with a cuppa, cake and some pinhole viewers.
Looking promising here too.
very light cloud here, would be hopeful of watching the finale but knowing my employers.. 🙄
Overcast and grey here 🙁
Light cloud here too.
Got a meeting at 9:30, will try and reschedule for 9:45 and go and stand in the field over the road to see if the bird song drops off.
Overcast on the south coast ATM but we're hopeful and just packing a breakfast picnic... 😀
Looking encouraging, light cloud earlier is clearing with a fair bit of blue behind it...
I'll be riding out of Hebden Bridge 8)
Haven't got anything to watch it through 😥
I was in Cornwall in '99 though - it was ace.
Wallop - two bits of cardboard, one with pinhole in. Job. Done.
All this pinhole rubbish when you can use technology. Smartphone in selfie mode.
Hazy mist here.. Hopefully the moon will burn it off
bah. cloud and now drizzle in IV30.
our bit of oxfordshire is solidly grey...
Maidstone is grey skies as well. Which sucks because I have the schools telescope primed (with solar filter).
Annoying doesn't really cover it.
You wait ages for the sun to come out and the bloody moon comes along and spoils it. Typical.

Do you have to wear sunglasses ?And have a stick ?
No.
I've got a load of eclipse glasses I got for the passage of Venus a few years ago. I was hoping to make a profit this morning but it's 100% cloud.

Which won't work because the camera won't be able to deal with the level of contrast.
Welding mask all the way for me.

It'll give you a rough idea especially as it gets closer to the full eclipse.
Welding mask all the way for me.
I have one in my pocket all the time.
Adjust the settings perhaps?
Cloud and light rain in Inverness.

Digital sensors just don't have the dynamic range unfortunately

Well, I've just bought the lens with me! Far easier to get hold of than those eclipse glasses that are recommended.
I also read somewhere that a colander can be useful (for viewing the eclipse that is)
touch and go here 😕
If you think i am standing outside wearing a collander on my head 😉
I saw that too, produces multiple images.
Another option is to find a tree which is in leaf and look at small the patches of sunlight projecting through. They act like tiny pinholes. We watched the total from the bottom of the gorge de verdon with a tree projecting thousands of images on to a vast wall of limestone.
welding glass here as well but I also have that
Yeah, the sun was out a minute ago in Bristol and now obscured again. Fingers crossed.
No sacred Ganges to plunge into, and the Thames looks a wee bit cold. Relief that its cloudy and overcast then!
Will it still get noticeably darker - I assume so?
ITS STARTED HERE IN STROUD!!!!!!!
suns now out here 😀
i'm sure it looks great, but here in Surrey (AShtead) it's as grey as a squirrel.
Sunny here in Cardiff 🙂
About to ride to work so will be a bit strange as it gets dark. I'll probably pretend it's the beginning of the zombie apocalypse for a bit of fun, lights fully charged 😆
Damn it! A huge cloud is moving in.
Looks promising here in Dundee

Cloudy over Brizzle...scuppers my plans. Maybe just go to the local park and see what's happening. 😐
*puts away shoebox pinhole projector till 2090*
Zero clouds in edinburgh
Drizzle not far away on the Wiltshire/Dorset borderlands.
Clear in Cheshire!... really good view
Oooh! It might clear in time but it's going to be close.
So what's the difference between admiring a good sunset and looking at an eclipse? You don't wear fancy goggles for the former.
Beautiful clear blue skies here in the Blacks. Starting to feel like evening....
Even my 6 year old knows the difference between the two and a quick google should help you out
