so im selling my motorbike on ebay and i have now got over 100 people watching it! there have been a few bids already so its going to sell, but i wondered if i stated how many peole are watching it in the add it might improve things? what i thought was if 50 people all bid the same amount 1 min before it ends then 49 will loose out, but if i said there were so many people watching it in the ad, whilst id probably loose some watchers, i might also get some much higher bids from the most serious people who really want it??
what do people recon?any ebay experts out there?

I'd say it'd put people off. Just sounds like you're trying to lure people into bidding.

Just see what happens- no point stating 100 watchers as 70 might have no intention of bidding!

I sold my wifes Specialized last week on the Bay.

Like you I had loads of watchers but I only 1 bid.

I left an update saying x number of watchers, start bidding you going to loose out etc.
It had zero effect in my case, and I lost no watchers.

I suppose at the end of the day it's how saleable the item is that will determine the final bid price. I know I watch items without having much intention of bidding.

It wouldn't put me off bidding. Thing is though, a lot of those watchers could be other potential sellers waiting to see how much their bike might be worth and what he demand is.

Nah, I'd say that would put people off.
Get a couple of mates to help the bidding along, but be sensible.

As Glen says, there will be a sizeable number of watchers just interested in seeing how much it goes for, there'll be a number watching in case of a bargain and with either stop watching or ignore if it goes over a certain price.

Could be seen as a bit of showboating if you start telling everyone whos watching. And you'll look like a fool if the numbers drop. Not that anyone would probably believe your number anyway....

Doubtful you'd get any higher bids from 'serious' people just 'cos you've said 50 people are watching.
