Evening all,

You chaps are usually pretty knowledgeable about these things,

I bought a record player on ebay a while back. The seller was local so I went and collected it. The guy seemed really sound so I didn't bother to check the item over, just put it in the car and took it home. all good...

When I get round to having a look at it, it's actually broken. Tone arm snapped, and bearings loose from overuse, meaning the arm rattles around all over the place. Doesn't work at all, and absolutely not 'in perfect working condition' as stated in the listing.

Really disappointed. I text the seller to find out his explanation and he says 'it was fine last time I used it, you're trying to con me etc...'. After a few back and forth's where I offer to get it repaired at his expense or return the item, even asking him to come over and look for himself, he just ghosts me and doesn't answer my calls.

So I open up a case with ebay. Make my case, and they say I should return the item for a full refund. They said that I need to wait for the seller to make arrangements for the items return. So a couple of weeks go by and I've heard nothing. Then out of the blue, ebay refunds me. £800, with no explanation.

So now what? This was a week ago. I've heard nothing from the seller. If it was me I'd be wanting to get me item back! But I've got a full refund plus the (broken) item?

Do I just drop it round? What if ebay then change their mind? Why hasn't he contacted me? If it was for a cheap item I could understand, but £800?

Cheers

Wait for him to make contact when he finds out I guess. Maybe an email saying you'll dispose of it unless he arranges collection within 14 days.

If you've paid via ebay and collected in person then there's no breadcrumb trail of you ever receiving it, of course.
