Wondering if anyone can help here.

I bought on eBay an iPod nano 7th gen this morning and paid the £70 for it (I want it for running with Bluetooth headphones on - I don’t want to use my iPhone as it’s bulky to run with / I don’t want to drain the battery).

Paid the money via PayPal and all seeemd ok - but the seller messaged on eBay to say they accidentally refunded me on PayPal. I’ve had an email from PayPal to confirm the refund but it says it won’t arrive until the 17th Jan.

Wary I don’t want to get scammed but I do want the item. Is the best way to tell the seller to relist the item and start from scratch or is there any other way of sorting this? I’ve dropped PayPal a message but they could take 24 hours to reply apparently, and I don’t know how useful their reply will be.

Thanks

Just send the seller a copy of the email - any decent seller should wait for your money to be refunded surely

Paypal refunds typically take 3-5 working days to clear into the recipients account (although the sender has this amount taken from their balance or charged to their bank immediately).

Supposedly this is to prevent money-laundering and fraud but the cynic might suggest it's just another way for Paypal to earn money on deposit. It can be faster if the sender has funds in their account to cover the refund. I believe that this refund 'can' be reversed until it's fully cleared.

I'd ask the seller to relist.

Can be worth calling up eBay, they've always been extremely helpful when I've had to ring them

Some of the delay can be from the way you paid - if paying by bank card through PayPal the payment clears a lot faster than by direct debit from your bank account. So it might not have cleared INTO PayPal yet, then it has to come back the other way with the same delays. Add in non-working days at the weekend and that probably explains the date stated.

Personally I’d wait until it was 100% cleared back in your account then ask the seller to relist it. They might get some sort of refund on their selling fees as they refunded.
I certainly wouldn’t send the money again outside of the eBay system.

I think I’ll sit tight until the refund has gone through then if there is any chance of it being reversed - I don’t want to pay twice. The seller has 100% feedback for 915 items - but in the last 12 months they’re all buying not selling. They seem genuine on messages but then fraudsters would be too if they’re good.

In the meantime I’ll contact eBay as well to see what they advise. I imagine relisting and buying again is going to be the solution.
