I've got an item on the bay. Five day auction with postage bundled in. I've had a message from a guy in Germany asking if I would be okay with him organising a fully insured courier;UPS, FEDEX etc.

Should I be concerned? If the buyer arranges shipping do I lose control and may I find myself up a creek sans paddle?

The response you’re looking for is a simple “no”. However, if you want open it to foreign buyers then you can use the Global Shipping Programme

be wary of size and weight limits for the global programme. eBay tends to automatically opt you in even if the shipping options you’ve selected are outside the parameters of their service. I’ve been stung for a £60 surcharge from them in the past.

It'd be a 'no' from me, there's too much scope for scammery if someone else books their own courier.

It depends what it is and how helpful I’m feeling.

Or how much interest I’ve had elsewhere.

Would be a No from me too but I don't bother sending internationally anyway.

I'd allow it, not really sure how you could get scammed from it and saves you any hassle if they have to claim. Done it myself in the past.

Why not? Your responsibility ends when its picked up and signed for.
Bear in mind that many on STW are paranoid shandy puffs...

I seem to remember a scam involving using the buyers courier but can't remember the details , sorry.

Something along the lines of you sign to say you have given the stuff to the courier, it never arrives and then you find out you have signed to say you are responsible and have to pay for the shipment and the goods that have disappeared or something like that

I've literally never signed anything when a courier picked up a package. Sounds a bit old school to be honest.

No, your responsibility ends when the courier delivers it. So if the courier messes up and it's not your courier and they won't deal with you because you're not their customer who paid for it, you're in a tricky spot

If you sell as collection only, and the buyer arranges collection, then this is not the case.

I've done this on a couple of occasions with large items I couldn't be bothered posting. One of them I left outside on a pallet for collection. When the courier collected it, he made an arse of it and knocked it over. The buyer tried to claim this was in some way my fault via ebay returns, who basically said what I just said - his problem, not mine.

Not really. I've sold over £50K of stuff over the years and am just careful how I sell/send which means I don't get issues and hassle to deal with and risk of money given back to buyer and no item back to me.
Sending internationally at the moment could clearly be MUCH more likely to screw up and if they don't get their item you are going to be dealing with hassle one way or another.

Yeah I'd do it, but arguably i'd just quote him from parcel2go or parcelmonkey and ship it.

A sale is a sale.
