I heard the head of the lake district NP on the radio couple of weeks ago, and despite the presenters line of questioning “What will you do with hordes? Will it all be overrun? How will you deal with ASB? etc” He just repeated what a great place the lakes is and gave advice on how people can enjoy it as best they can and all the measures they’re putting place. Very refreshing attitude vs some of the pish from our NPs and cooncils.

That's really good. I'm already getting pissed off with all the doom mongers wallowing in misery about how bad things will be when stuff opens up. An FB friend made a post about the 'impending desecration of the Highlands'! Of course there will be antisocial behaviour but that would happen most years, if not on the same scale and if you go looking for it you will find it. There will always be a minority who behave irresponsibly, it's the flip side of having access laws that allow people such freedom. That doesn't make it acceptable or mean we should let people away with it but the only way to stop it would be by having stricter restrictions for all. More education and policing would help but it will only get us so far.

I've been going to Highlands since I was a little boy and somewhere I always see a bunch of lads (usually blamed on Dundee folk) sat by a tent in a random bit of field with slabs of beer 12-15 high. They sit there all week come rain or shine getting pished. Most take their crap home, some don't. None of this is that new

When is the next ScotGov announcement?

I think the restrictions are due to change on May 17th but doesn't NS have to announce and approve them beforehand?

Normally it's on a Tuesday so I'd guess the 4th of May

5 of us at the pub tonight, sitting outside in 4C temps with hailstorms passing through.

It was glorious 🙂

Tempest brewery tap session on Sunday. I cannot wait.

Well obviously I can and it's not the most important thing in the world but Mrs 100th offered to drive me there and back, obviously there's a huge to-do list incoming but.....

I like a Jarl. The Old Bridge Inn often has it as a guest beer.

Enjoy!

Week in the tweed valley for me, saw one massive group but most folks seem, well, sensible.

Was a wee bit surprised that the uplift minibus is operating at full capacity, I was kind of expecting half-full buses to space it out. But masks on, windows open, controls over loading and unloading, hand sanitiser available. It all seemed perfectly sensible and appropriate, I'm just a little surprised it's allowed, despite being sensible and appropriate.

Mmm, thinking about it not quite full, the cabin is sealed off so the front 2 seats aren't available. So I think 14 to a bus.

Only 9 to a bus last week, one person per double seat. Surprised that has changed!

As said it was 9 to a bus, enough room for a row on the trailer plus one.

Knock-on effects...

Some local businesses are struggling to re-open due to lack of staff. A combination of; reluctance to move due to a possibility of future lockdown, coming off furlough, lack of affordable accommodation and sodding Brexit putting off many foreigners.

Does that mean there is a job for a couple of family_oab? I know one who would love a summer near different riding...

Kitchen experience?

And it's a bit of a commute - see my point about accommodation.

Matt, there's loads of jobs going on Arran, as all businesses open back up and their previous seasonal staff have got employment elsewhere.

Back and forth to the office this week for meetings - and the traffic queues have returned. 🤨

Clearly more of us are back out and about.

Just now the M9 is queueing north and south at Keir with what looks like wacky races of caravans, campers and cars loaded with bikes.

Excellent, hopefully lots of them spending their hard earned in the many businesses that have had very little to go in in the last 14 or so months.

Indeed.

It is just a shock after such a year of quiet A9!

Also means the lot of them this week are going to be p*ss*d on all week...

Enjoy

Being going to Aviemore since the 70's and didn't know it existed. Ran past it on the LG race and intent to spend money in it this July.

I long considered the OBI my "local". It's the pub we most often stopped at after an evening ride, or had a get-together early Saturday evening. The food has always been good too - and there's the rub. They've become more foodie over the past couple of years so most tables are now reserved for eating. It probably makes economic sense for them, but it has lost a bit of pub atmosphere. Most times we now head for the Balavoulin.

As a concerned local, can I ask of any others from Moray to stop whatever it is that is making our infection rate 🚀 Looks like the rest of the country will get downgraded whilst the manky folk of Moray get us to stay locked-down.

A lot of that centres around Elgin academy I thought?

It centres around Elgin. According to locals it's been too many youths out partying in the woods and quarry i.e. the transmission is not taking place in school.

Moray is currently way above the threshold for tier 3 (where we're at now).

The blackspot in Highland Region is/was an oil supply ship which is reported as Cromarty.

Long wait to get on Keir yesterday afternoon heading home after work (via Carron Valley), not sure how long the A9 wait was. I too got used to it being easy to get through. Edinburgh bypass seems easier than usual, but picking up.
Was at Arisaig last weekend, felt very quiet. Usual tactic of walking a while from the road (where there were freerange turds) to camp. A glen to ourselves.

Well lots of good news for most today I hope.

I live in Highland but work in Moray. Moray's situation would appear to be a pita. Lots waiting to find out what the travel ban will look like. My work colleague has his inlaws up from England staying in a holiday park for a few weeks (as staying in the house obvs not in the rules). Not quite sure if it is proposed they will have to leave on Monday or if they can stay because they are already here.

It seems living in a level 3 when you are the only level 3 is a lot worse than living in a level 3 when everyone else is also in a level 3.

Aye and I've not yet looked into the implications of the islands going to L1 while the rest of us are in L2.

Travel restrictions only kick in at L3 or above so logically will need to apply to Moray but not Islands. I think.

 • you can travel anywhere in Scotland in Levels 0, 1 or 2 but must not enter a Level 3 or 4 area unless for a permitted reason

Yep. I just confirmed it at https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-protection-levels/pages/protection-level-1/ . Cheers

Aye, nae a happy Moray resident here. All the Elgin academy kids partying in the woods didn't help. I've also heard of quite a few house parties too. Flippin' selfish bast@#&s! 😡

Aye, a pal down in Glasgow who's been locked up since about October is handing out the bantz 😁

One good thing though is our 18+ population will be the first in the country to be fully vaccinated.

Moray minks!

@swavis - that’s going on all over though. Any local goss on particular clusters/industries/employers beyond what you describe?

Found it quite strange that moray alone was in such a state of numbers, but if you look at the graphs for glasgow city and clacks, they'll be in the same position in a week or so, and maybe some others not far behind them...

Apparently groups of workers from the local biscuit factory have been a bit naughty and didn't isolate properly/at all.
Knockando primary had 3 positives, again due to someone not following the guidelines correctly. Just a couple of the more likely rumours @shortbread_fanylion

Bearing in mind the way it is supposed to have got going in China. It is probably you Moray punters unique, and frankly disgusting approach to animal "husbandry" that has introduced a whole new strain.

Tbh I reckon there will be similar ups and downs amongst other authorities in the coming months, as long as the vaccine driven divergance between cases and hosptalisations continues, then hey ho.
