I'm looking for a recommended shop/supplier in Yorkshire/S Yorkshire/N Derbyshire area that specialise in ebikes.
No real knowledge but thinking of one for commuting and getting around generally, car replacement type of thing.
I don't use bikes as everyday transport, and haven't for years, but stumbled on a video review for the Felt Bruhaul and it looked awesome.
Any recommendations of where to go for advice and test rides etc.
Thanks.
Specialized concept store in Harrogate have a demo fleet of the whole turbo/Levo range, give one a try?
Haven't je James opened an ebike showroom?
+1 for James Cycles. The Rotherham branch has an Ebike showroom
Must admit I don't like ebikes offroad for anything verging on technical, they are just too dam heavy. Bafang is worth a look if you want to retro fit a bike(it's really easy.) We even managed to get an engine(guess that's what they are?) for a fat bike with a 120mm bb to fit a 68mm 90s proflex last week! ๐ (trying to encourage my older bro out on the bike and he has a thing about his proflex).(The fat bike he got his engine with is ridiculous, bit odd with the wide bb, but it works, you can buy kits for normal bbs..)
The bafang HD is awesomely powerful, if not road legal, but you can get 250W versions. I'd doubt you'd get pulled up for the 1000W verison, you couldn't tell just by looking at it, but I guess is might be noticeable if you flew by the police at speed! ๐
All in all they are great, as I say a fair bit heavy for rocky off road imo, they are great other wise fine, will do no bother for easy trails and road.
Not for me at this point in my life, but when i'm older and struggling to turn a pedal I'll absolutely be retrofitting.
Won't be for use off-road (other than tracks and canals etc.)
I'm happy with my mountain bike off-road and for excercise etc.
Just want something to replace the car for everyday use, shopping, getting from a to b easily without too much effort.
I already walk 30 miles a week and ride off-road for excercise.
Peak e-bikes on the Monsal Trail near Bakewell. Great cafe too.
All those shops bookmarked on google maps for when I'm in the area with work. Cheers.

And it was at that moment that the STW anti-pedelec-for-anything-other-than-disabled/obese/elderly hive-mind exploded

And it was at that moment...
Lolz ๐
As someone who was unashamedly sideswiped/converted by the 'Dutch experience' for utility/car-replacement/cargo purposes, I'd definitely recommend trying that approach when looking at ebikes. I now demand having evenrything to hand - big stand, onboard locks, hub-generator lighting, step-thru for ease loading, starting off. Not to mention the relaxed head-high visibililty of it all. My Batavus feels like a battle-cruiser and smooth as. Super-stable even (especially) when loaded to the gunnels. Makes me grin, and seem to find any small excuse to ride it rather than take the car anyway.
Have a look at Gazelle?
There's seemingly thousands of them in the Chesterfield branch of JE James.
I often have a quick peek, feel dirty and then go back to looking at cranks/pedals to make myself feel normal again ๐
You could give Blazing Saddles in Hebden Bridge /Crag Vale a try, they do Specialized, Raleigh and Haibike.
You could also try Earnshaws in Huddersfield they do Scott, Bergamont, Lapierre & Mondraker they have a wide selection in all price ranges.
I have had excellent service from both these , Got my Levo from Blazing Saddles and my partner got a Scott e-spark from Earnshaws
I'd use a local retailer you can visit in person and get good after sales. It's more like a car purchase and can have similar pitfalls.
I wouldn't recommend tweeks cycles and really any online box shifter for that reason.
They do totally replace a car for town and city journeys. I got a Scott esub tour. Really comfy, fast.
Fair few in Chesterfield Cycle Centre, but I think it's more focused around the of road style of bikes.
Forgot to say, Dutch style = regular clothes. Always underestimated the feeling of just deciding to step on a bile and go, wearign whatever. Feels like being 10 yrs old again. As much as I still love MTBing amd touring, I never really enjoyed the seemingly increasing faff before the off. The foff. If you will. 8)
"Foff" I like that ๐
Will be using it in future.

Isn't that called 'cycling'. 1000s of people partake every day in Cities across the UK....
