Drugs - who's done them, dabbled or never?

There's currently an epidemic - especially among young people - of ketamine use round our way. Half the price of coke, with pretty much the same effect.

Ketamine and Coke do not have the same effect, one is a stimulant and the other is a tranquilizer used by vets to sedate large animals. Based on my username I'm gonna guess I don't need to explain how I know this ( and I haven't touched either for over 20 years now)

Not just me who’s never dabbled then.

A lot of my friends smoked weed occasionally and was often offered the opportunity for a toke.  Never fancied smoking it - but unlike them I didn’t smoke cigarettes. Some of that same group - also did speed, ecstasy and a couple were into acid.

When I look back it seemed I was the exception in several groups of my friends from work, university and school.  I was never interested - and frightened to try TBH.

Having taken many medications in hospital as a result of injury and surgery - I’m not sure I missed out.  Morphine through a pump was fine - but I didn’t find it moreish as advertised.  Had a very negative experience with fentanyl - hallucinated massively and became very paranoid, so much so I would ask for an alternative.

That said, bearing in mind I have a life-limiting condition (Not a terminal diagnosis - I must emphasise.).  Every now and again, I wonder if I should have experimented more with pills - but definitely not weed.

Why not weed, edibles are very moreish 😉

I would need to spend too much time ensuring it didn’t interact negatively with my prescribed meds.

I'm told by people who have had both that if you take ketamine in smaller doses it has a similar effect to coke (especially the shit county lines stuff the kids buy). I've seen quite a lot of kids quite hyped up on it rather than the expected k-hole zombies so there must be something to it. Never had ket though so it's not from personal experience.

Doesn't Ketamine screw males bladders up to the extend that younger men who are heavy users are needing bladder transplants?

Not just men. I work in a hospital path lab and see "ketamine bladder" in the clinical details of samples more and more often.

A light wipe of Prit stick on the cistern lid.

They don't use the cistern lids, far too unhygienic and disgusting. It's common practice to put lines out on your phone. The toilet cubicle is just for privacy as you can't really get away with it in the pub/club.

I remember where I heard it - Alexei Sayle's autobiography. He wasn't into it, but he knew someone who ran a pub or club that would do this because they didn't want people doing it. I guess it was the '80s and the filofaxes had the wrong texture... or something?

Reading above about the effects of ketamine I suspect it's what the vet gave our horse yesterday morning to make her more manageable, I'll have to ask. One very zombie horse.

If anything it can have a similar effect to ecstasy/ MDMA. I tried it a couple of times many years ago and wasn't keen at all but I remember being pretty chilled out and hallucinating, which is the opposite if being high on coke

Go to any pub or bar in the UK and you can guarantee the toilets are being used to take coke.

Not in the pub I’ve been drinking in for the past few years.

Well that pub isn't very representative then. Coke use is now absolutely endemic in this country, across all classes and age groups. The country is completely awash with cheap, shite pub coke, which may or may not have any actual cocaine in it.

In my local - which isn't some city centre place, its just your small town standard boozer - you can glaringly obviously see it at the weekends and sometimes through the week, after work, with the usual scaffolders  (why is it always scaffolders?). The landlord recently had to politely request that everyone at least played the game and went to the bogs to do it, to keep up the ludicrous pretense that the law demands we all go along with. He then had to (temporarily) bar one of the regulars who ignored the request and was just casually handing out bags of gak to his mates while being served at the bar, like he was handing out packets of crisps.

This isn't unusual. This is just the UK in 2026. It's been getting like this for 30 or 40 years. You can order Class A drugs like you can order a pizza and if you think otherwise then you're absolutely delusional

The quality was somewhat dubious 25yrs ago depending on where/whom you were able to get it from.

I soon realised what a complete and utter waste of money some of the stuff I'd bought had been after a trip to south America where I'd had the opportunity to sample the local goods - firstly chewing coca leaves which are readily available in the Andes, a fairly large bag for about 50p, then being offered a sample of powder from a local guy whilst in a bar in Iquitos. Once I'd got back to the table and the effects started to kick in I was extremely glad I'd been careful with it and only tried a small amount.

That's not my experience, but everyone is different I guess.  What I can say is mixing the two and hoofing a big line of the combination is a very bad idea and not a game I will ever play again.
