I had one yesterday and were and I reckon 10 out of 10 for discomfort
There is no way a self administered test can be done the same, twice almost lost my breakfast it was like sticking fingers down the throat to vomit
Ten seconds poking right up the nostril eyes watering like I'd been sprayed with pepper
The swab was dropped accidentally so had to endure it all again
All for a wee visit to the hospital this week .
The negative result 12 hrs later

If you thought that was hard to do, try doing it to a 7 year old child (who then won't look at you for 2 hours afterwards, and nearly 2 months later still won't talk about it)

There are many different types of test and not all of them need to be administered so invasively.

I've had 4 so far and helped my 12 year old daughter do hers, all at home. It's not nice but you do get used to it.

hah, if you thought that was hard, try getting an 18 month old to co-operate. Then get sent a positive test, self isolate for a week (shutting down his nursery as well), only to be sent another email 'oh sorry, our bad, we have no idea what your result was, you need to get him tested again'. He was negative all along..

I was the only person in the whole test centre when I went last Sunday. Was a walk in centre so as you can't drive / park I guess it was a bit quieter. Self administered swab thing, found it quite easy, in and out in under 5 mins.

I was flagged up for a test by the Zoe Covid Sympton Study Phone App, which was pretty cool - they even have their own passes for getting a test and skipping the normal requirements.

Yes they are horrible. As part of the Oxford vaccine trial I do weekly swabs. 25 sets done so far. All negative. It has got slightly easier, I don’t make as much noise now...
Just picked up my next 15 weeks worth of swabs last week...🥴

Did one about a month ago.

Ok, it’s not the most fun thing to do - but it ain’t THAT bad.

About a 3/10 max for discomfort (VO2 max intervals on the other hand.....🤢🤣) No blood, no lasting scars, no ongoing mental trauma needing counselling - a doddle in the grand scheme of things..

Came back negative.

I wouldn’t, however, want to have administer one to a toddler..

OP - if it was that bad I hope you never have to have an endoscopy.

Good news on the negative result.

The swab was dropped accidentally

Did you drive over the tester's foot on the way in, or something?

Yesterday I was merrily riding along doing some gravel bashing...until I came joined a lane and was faced with a barrage of signs telling me to keep my windows up.

That's quite unnerving (seeing as my bike doesn't have windows) but I could see no sign of chemicals/dust/nerve agents so carried on.

It was only halfway down the lane that I looked over my shoulder and realised the dangerous atmosphere was inside the cars heading to a testing site, and not outside!!!

I didn't breath a sign of relief though as my mask was in my bag 🙂
