[#1287877]

Ok, I don't post much personal stuff on here but last night I had a very vivid dream in which I was unfaithful to my wife. I know it was only a dream, but I can't shake this awful feeling of guilt. Just to make it clear, I have never played, nor have ever considered playing, away from home(as it were). Smoking too much of the good stuff in the past meant that I very rarely (i.e. pretty much never) remembered what I dreamt about during the night. After cutting back considerably over the last few months, my dreams are now often very realistic and, in this case, quite unsettling.

So, I ask the STW oracle; exactly how mental am I?

Dreams of (near) infidelity

near? Go to bed early tonight and you might get to third base.

Not mental really... maybe just not getting enough ๐Ÿ˜‰

Agreed on the good stuff though, I have always been a very active sleeper, talking and getting up wandering etc and my years on the good stuff really subdued it. I do find stress can crank things up though.

I should have added that wifey is 6 months pregnant too, which adds quite considerably to my self-loathing... (jesus, I could do with a smoke right about now)

In a bit of a similar situation on the smoking front, does this mean that after 15yrs without dreaming, when I finally start sleeping properly I'll be having dreams?

Yeti,

Once the sleep patterns sort themselves out, if my experiences are anything to go by, get ready for a fair bit of wtf???? in the mornings.

Testament to the power of the (previously subdued) subconscious mind I guess.

are you a chelsea fan? it was a dream - you didn't do anything...

last night i had a vivid dream that a very large lioness helped me build a model railway and we discussed a toy wheel barrow that I had as a child. it was a nice bonding experience. i'm not even going to try and analyse that one.

Oh Yeah, I remember when I quit the herb, really mental, really realisitic dreams. I remember the feeling of dread at bedtime wondering what the hell crazy dreams i was going to have that night. I dont't remember it suddenly stopping so I guess it just faded over time.

To the OP, I think it is common for fellas to have strange dreams when the missus is preggers......big life change and all that...Is it your first kid? That would probably explain it

Hmmm self loathing over unconscious thoughts, an interesting concept. Paranoia anyone?

to OP - completely normal (although that also assumes that I am normal, which is a seperate thread altogether)

, i'm surprised you haven't had such dreams before - seriously don't worry - One particular morning after a particularly vivid similar dream my wife asked me what was up, i told, her, she pissed herself laughing. It was only a dream and no-one understands dreasm

I think Freud thought he had a good crack at understanding dreams.

Don't worry this is just the real world, most people have crazy dreams. If you start having dreams about being chased by a giant snake and fighting it with a huge pipe etc then you can start worrying.

Freud didn't think he'd had a good crack at it, he just made stuff up.

It was only a dream - absolutely no reason to get hung-up about it at all whatsoever.

I dreamt that I was writhing on the floor with a hermaphrodite Cliff Richard and David Bowie whist watching nuns in kilts flashing their bums at me the other night. Embrace your sub-concious mind and enjoy the trips it takes you on!

Anyone know a good dealer?

You've missed out on loads of quality dirty dreams because of the "good stuff". You also have an increased risk of mental illness.

I have almost never remembered dreams - not as a kid, not when sober, not when drinking or not back in the days of smoking. Maybe half a dozen times in my life.

I obviously am dreaming - I talk, walk and thrash about in my sleep. I even argue in my sleep ๐Ÿ™‚ I even have night horrors - where you wake up in a total panic. But no memory of what an why.

Am I missing out or are you lot making up all this fun stuff?

What mastiles_fanylion said.

Jeez, if I worried about what my dreams were about ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

I briefly mentioned a dream yesterday from the night before - talk about vivid! But I could still tell my wife about it without a shred of guilt.
You should be more concerned that you're worrying about dreams ya weirdo.

i havent been sleeping as soundly as i normally do lately and as a consequence seem to have been remembering all of my dreams. i have slept with quite a lot of people the last few nights but i have also been involved in a lot of very odd capers. i wouldnt worry about it too much. my major weird out is that most of the seleeping with dreams have the infidelity part of it as a focus, which is unsettling.

You also have an increased risk of mental illness.

If you're susceptible to mental illness in the first place! In a similar way to your more likely to have an allergic reaction to peanuts if you eat them, but you have to have the allergy to start with.

Very similar to TJ here, almost never remember dreams. The ones I have remembered I've usually woken up in the middle of out of panic/fear etc (bad dreams).

I think the jury is still out on the causality/consequence thing isn't it? Mainly due to the fact that it's pretty much impossible to prove either way!

What, like alcohol and caffeine?

Despite being someone who quite likes a tipple and a good strong coffee, I do sometimes wonder if the world woudl be a better place without them!

But I know that I don't have a peanut allergy...

Only because you've tried them and not died. Although it's a good thing there are simple tests for this these days, rather than the guessing game that still exists with paranoia/mental illness etc.

The whole cannabis and mental illness thing is as yet unproven / there is no consensus.

3 hypotheses.

1) It causes mental illness
2) It can act as a trigger in susceptible people
3) People prone to mental illness are most likely to smoke cannabis.

No decent research can be done because of its illegal status, most drug users with issues use multiple drugs, non of the non problem users come to the attention of medical professionals

I dreamt my mum was running off with a Japanese fella last night, just before I woke up nearly in tears from it. No weed smoking here.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.....

Who??

No paranoia here really, but did use to love spinning myself out wondering if I was in the Truman Show...

I've had numerous alarmingly incestuous dreams, though thankfuly none involving my children, also gay or where I'm the woman, so infidelity is small beer...

That told him, eh?

๐Ÿ™„

Piemann - I wouldn't worry about the dream infidelity. Quite natural. You should worry more about the self-loathing.

brilliant.

i've smoked weed for over 13 years (i'm 27 now), the last 10 years habitually 3-4 times a day everyday and have always had bizarre dreams.

the above isn't entirely true as i've not had a smoke for over three weeks, but my dreams haven't changed. i dreamt my housemate was shagging some girl from my old school days in a room with lots of people egging him on, taking pictures and offering advice. and then his girlfriend finding out after he was showing everyone the pics.

weird.

Thanks for the replies folks. Some helpful, some not so helpful.

I admit, self loathing was maybe a bit strong. I'm not about to start self-harming or anything like that. Maybe mental discomfort is more apt.

Just to add context (or fuel to fire), it wasn't just anyone I dreamt about, but an old flame from many years ago that was my first love and still kinda represents my "what-if....." girl.

I think that's where most of the guilt comes from; that it was with someone whom I once had very strong feelings for (and still think about from time-to-time).

Anyway, I totally accept that we can have no control over what we dream about and have mentally (no pun intended)put the matter to bed.

Its not just weed + cheese, a work mate has stopped smokin + is on 24hr patches. He said he is having the best dreams of his life. Most seem 2 involve sherol cole + amanda holden being "nice" 2 each other !

oh come on, you're a bloke aren't you?
all men think of 'what ifs', 'if onlys' and 'maybe one days' in the cold light of day, let alone the cozy secret depths of their subconscious

Last night I dreamt that I was visiting an exhibition of the work of Johnson Banks, in a shopping mall in Berlin which was also near a bridge where I live in Sheffield, whilst wearing nothing but a bath towel.

Dreams are stupid, ignore them.
