Couldn't have put it better myself. After the drink driving thread, I have to say that I like the directness of the language.
Aussie Cops, famous the world over for their sense of perspective.
Stopping cars be driven too fast coming out of a race way is like stopping cars leaving a pub on drinking offences. It is like shooting fish in a barrel. Fair play to the cops for being efficient. My money says no-one would be querying this here had a non Brit been stopped.
The minister was right - he was being a dickhead.
Is it against the law to be a dickhead? Wheel spinning ain't that bad is it?
Hmmm, torn on this. On the one hand he is being a dickhead spinning the wheels. But then who hasnt done that?
On the other hand, given the choice between Lewis Hamilton spinning the wheels of a high powered german piece of machinery whilst my children played in the road and some 70yr old dothering bloke nipping to the shops in his mobile death machine. I know which one i would take
No, he is a dickead. Which isn't illegal, but he does need to grow up.
Nice timing to coincide with the safety campaign. Charge a famous person and show that nobody is above the law. I just like the bluntness of it.
If you drive like a dickhead, you will get called a dickhead. Giving Hamilton a fine isn't really going to touch him, is it? A bit of public humiliation might work though. But I'm not so interested in Hamilton, just in calling a spade, well.... a spade!
Wheel spinning ain't that bad is it?
I believe it is in Melbourne. 😉
- Interesting phraseology, although I know what he is trying to say.I've still got the same girl
Hamilton switches from sickly corporate to twonky yoof (if he wasn't an F1 driver, I'm sure he would have a corsa with neon skirt lights or a Ford Asbo) - can't warm to him yet but I might do as he grows up a bit.
Button however seems to hold a nice line between affable pro and James Hunt esque party hard legend - just what an F1 driver should be.
Don't Australian police know the difference between a 'skid' and a 'wheelspin'?
Hamilton's simpering apologetic behaviour makes him look a dickhead more than wheelspinning his Benzo does.
I'm not a Hamilton fan; I hope Button keeps whipping the MCD (McLaren Component Driver)'s arse.
I can hear callmedave's spin machine whirling into motion looking for an opportunity to display a similar level of no nonsense talking...
Personally, I like being a dickhead and I'm glad Lewis has brought this into the public eye, so we can see how pathetic all the non-dickheads are.
just in calling a spade, well.... a spade!
Bit racist isn't it? 😉
I was right about that emoticon you know!
just in calling a spade, well.... a spade!Bit racist isn't it?
Damnit beaten to it!!!!!! 😆
Looks to me like they wanted a high profile "name" to launch their safety campaign - probably had all the local cops outside the track with orders to make sure they pulled someone famous.
Note: He didn't get done for speeding - just lost some rear traction pulling away, in a powerful RWD MB, in the wet....
Only news here is the launch of the Melbourne safety campaign
was this the same Premier of Victoria that got booed by the crowd on Sunday?
you'd think there were worse crimes requiring police attention than "deliberatly spinning your rear wheels". If they've got their country to the point where this crime is top of the list then hats off to them. If they haven't, then I guess "dickhead" can still be used to describe the situation
😉
Note: He didn't get done for speeding - just lost some rear traction pulling away, in a powerful RWD MB, in the wet....
Which would be considered not being in full control of the vehicle in the UK IIRC.
Serves him right I reckon for cheating on his lovely wife Elin with all those strippers
😆
Oh dear, KT1973's medication has worn off again!
Nurse!
Is Kt1973 making reference to Tiger woods and Lewis Hamilton being one and the same person? Strange, why would you think that I wonder?
'cos they are both high profile sportsmen, who have no idea of real life and are arrogant twunts?
Yes, that must be why he got himself confused, nothing more sinister.
Hey twunt (plural for twonk)is my word, hands off!
Hey twunt (plural for twonk)is my word, hands off!
No it's not, it's an attempt to turn **** and cnt into one easy to use, yet less offensive insult
So what is the the collective of twonk? Twonks doesn't feel right!
twonka? twice?

I'd say that depends on the road conditions. Additionally, whether the wheel spinning was an intentional and sustanined act or the mechanical reaction to the road conditions that the driver (or unfortunately nowadays the car) then acts to correct.
As for Hamilton well yes he's been a DH more so for yet another staged, insincere (imo) appology. Grow a pair man!
grum - Memberjust in calling a spade, well.... a spade!
Bit racist isn't it?
😳 😳 😳
But doesn't that make you the racist for bringing race into the equation, rather than me for not making the connection in the first place. 😉 😉
Point 1 – he needs to learn how to look after his tyres – then he might win something
Point 2 – he should have better clutch/ car control to be able to accelerate quickly with out spinning the wheels
Point 3 – Like it or not he’s a role model and should be aware of his reasonability to set an example to other and equally to be made an example of when he steps over the line
Point 4 – spoilt bratish dickhead who needs to get himself sorted
So he did a burnout, its hardly worth international attention and a prime minister calling him a dickhead is it. He's an F1 driver out in his merc, caught by the police and righfully fined but FFS a bit of perspective required!
ooh f1 driver almost does something exciting shocker
i expect bernie ecclestons pr team have been making sure this gets coverage globally
anything to make f1 more exciting
So what is the the collective of twonk?
T****s?
Am I the only one who sees the irony of a Brit being stung by the police, for a trivial crime in a country WHERE THEY ARE ALL DECENDED FROM BRITISH CRIMINALS who got sent there for as little as theft of a loaf of bread.
T****s?
That's a group of Americans no?
Point 2 – he should have better clutch/ car control to be able to accelerate quickly with out spinning the wheels
Like he's driving a manual...
I wonder if he switched off his traction control to get the wheels to spin - I know I have to 😀
I have, and always will have, the right to be a dickhead. It's not like it's a new thing for me.
Rise up dickheads!

Is criminality a hereditary genetic trait? 🙄
You're forgetting, of course, that Australia has an indigenous population, as well as the many immigrants from places like Greece, Vietnam and Italy? Granted, 90% or so of Australians are descended from British or Irish settlers, but only a small number of early settlers from Europe were actually transported convicts. The Gold rush in the middle of the 19th century saw massive immigration to the country.
Still, don't let annoying little things such as facts get in the way of your assumptions, eh? 😉
but you can still spin your wheels and be in full control of your car unless this means that every rally driver in the world goes from stage to stage not in control and by luck.
He's a professional driver FFS, his job is to drive cars quickly and with full control. Sometimes he goes sideways, the rear end may slip out but pro's actually do this on purpose most of the time, the times they dont they generally can handle and rarely crash.
Think they need to relax a bit and do some proper policing rather than try to make themselves look good for tv and media
Australia is getting tough on driving like a dickhead.
Check the laws before you travel and dont get caught

There were only about 150,000 convicts sent to Australia, ending in the 1850's. There were more convicts sent to the US than to Australia, yet the inevitable inference Australians as having some ingrained criminality seems to remain a popular slight in Britain. This despite the fact Australia and the UK have similar rates of the population being imprisoned. Anecdotal evidence would also point to Australia having significantly less crime than the UK. Nevertheless, I'm sure the stereotype will persist as it accords well with an ingrained sense of superiority in much of the UK population.
