There’s a very active storm cell heading my way very quickly

Lots and lots of flashes, but it’s staying well to the west of Chippenham, pretty much following the Fossway north from Bath.

Wow, that's crazy! I'd struggle to sleep through that. Is each of those from a single leader, or if a leader forks, does each fork register separately?

To be honest, I have no idea, I think each marker is a single leader. It’s not very noisy, if yo zoom in on Chippenham, I’m somewhat to the east of the red line, the A350, that runs around the western side of town, so the sky has been well lit up, but not many big bangs.
Shame, really.

I'm quite partial to a good thunderstorm, especially at night, but where I am (west of Durham) we've missed them all so far this year. Still, some strikes are beginning to appear to the west of the pennines and also off the east coast, so we may see something yet... nothing like the south west though!

That map is great. Been awake for about 30mins enjoying the show. hopefully more to come as there seems to be more activity heading north from Marlborough. never seen anything like it.

I’m up keeping the terrified dog company. The storm can piss off so I can get some sleep!

Just had a fair old storm, passed quickly though. Festival weather is upon us as is usual for this time of year 🙄

Impressive show as it passed through Cheshire in the early hours. Had the Lightning Maps website open as it was firing all around - surprisingly little noise for the amount of lightning, but an incredible amount of rain and some big squalls.

Loads of flashes around midnight in Southampton. You could see the storm getting closer for ages before the rain hit. Not much noise though.

Amazing storm last night, loudest I've ever heard (in the UK at least). Worried it might upset my daughter (5) only to find she got up, opened her curtains for a bit to watch and then went back to bed.

Time you going muffin? It's gonna be a warm push with the wheel barrows whilst donning a big ruck sack!

Aim to get there for between 1 and 2pm - depending on traffic. They've changing things again so we all go in via Mouldridge Lane again (not directly off the main road as last year). Don't know why they've done this - we drove straight in last year with no queues.

Are you working or following the advertised opening times as the reasoning for going at that time? It will be mayhem. I'll be heading in at 9 as usual. I've heard rumours they've cut numbers big time as well.

And hopefully numbers have been cut - I'd rather it was kept smaller.

Just south of Bath, last night at midnight until 1:00am, was the most incredible storm I've ever seen it was literally like a morse lamp, almost constant lightning from 3/4 cells around us. Oddly quiet thunder but again, constant. A bit of rain but nothing significant. It was brilliant!

I noticed last night how quiet the storm was, more a distant rumbling, even from the close strikes, and the Beeb’s weather bloke on Points West made a comment about it; seems the storm was pretty high up, with the lightning arcing between the clouds, rather then cloud to earth or the other way around, which made it much quieter than we’re used to, because of the air space involved.
Terrific storm, though I wish it had come a bit further east.
Oh, and apparently something like 46,000 strikes nationwide!

A few rumbles and flashes in Eastbourne, nothing compared to last months light show.
