so he will have to sell assets to pay the disgorgement

If I understand it correctly (and there's every chance I don't) I think Trump has to appoint a board of people to make those decisions*. He still owns the properties, but can't make any business decisions about them.

* I think the judge wanted this to happen with ten days of the last trial (where they decided on his guilt) but has recently allowed that it can take 30 days.

nickc - a receiver was appointed but, this being trumpworld, there was an attempt to ignore her.
The 30 days refers, I think, to compiling a comprehensive list of the assets covered by the judge's order.

By way of a backstory Trump was originally a Democrat as are most NY business folks and he made political donations to the Democrats. The issue he's in court for today came up a few years ago when Cyrus Vance Jr was the NY DA and was poking around Trump's business dealings. Trump sent his attorney to meet with the DA and made a contribution to his political campaign and the investigation suddenly stopped.

Towards the end of his little pre trial speech he addressed his followers that they should go after the attorney general.

Sounded like a threat, or possibly instruction which it may be taken as as many of his followers have the IQ of a cabbage.

Man is an idiot, just cannot keep his mouth shut.

They say you can give someone enough rope to hang themselves, with but with Trump you only need hand him a microphone.

I am certain that calling the judge who is going to decide the case names is a really really smart tactic. It will surely make the judge think favourably of him

I think there will be much slapping down of defence lawyers before this case concludes.
trump is helping Jack Smith and other prosecutors by continuing to shout 'witch hunt' and saying there is a DoJ conspiracy to bring him down because he is the president in waiting.
A delusional, lying fraudster; a fetid sack of cells in an expensive suit.

Oops. Trump’s lawyers forgot to ask for a jury trial so the judge will decide the verdict. Jury could have been influenced by the ‘no victim’ argument but not the judge.

Must be some mistake. After all he said he only hires the best people.

I also read that it was less likely the judge would apply a hugely crazy high settlement whereas a jury might. Who knows :(.

I wonder if he knows hes screwed and that his best chance is winning the election and pardoning himself. If thats the case, getting convicted by a judge is a better fit for his establishment witchhunt narrative.

Its possible but I think its far more likely the fact he can only get cult members as lawyers now means they didnt fill out the form properly.

Would be funny if true but it isn't.
Earlier this year his lawyers waived his right to a jury trial as confirmed in online court filings; this is why it's just the judge.

I wonder if he knows hes screwed

I think he's known he's screwed since the moment he first won the nomination to run for president and..... just like everyone else that does - was asked to publish his tax returns. That lead to this.  In private enterprise he's been able to cheat, cut corners and pay for silence. Running for public office comes with it a demand for transparency - finances have to be declared, phone calls are recorded, conversations are all minuted and documented all that stuff - he'll have been told that.

The very first time he was asked to publish his returns and he said 'shan't' the game was up, all he's been doing since is delaying the inevitable.

It's so pathetic, he looks and sounds like a child who's been pulled in front of the headmaster for throwing eggs at the art teachers car.

It's all super interesting.

At the point he won the presidency, I predicted (wrongly) that all the shady dealings from his past would be dragged into the light, and he'd spend his entire time in office trying to manage the fallout from that.

What actually happened is that he was so batshit crazy in office that everyone had their work cut-out trying to deal with whatever table he'd flipped that day.  The irony is that it's him leaving office that's triggered all of these court cases - both through all of the Jan 6th/Georgia/stealing documents nonsense, and in positioning himself as a candidate for a second term.

Had he just admitted defeat graciously, and slipped into the background - probably none of this would be happening.  I don't think there would be any political appetite for dragging an elderly former president through the courts, if they weren't a continuing threat to democracy

I like that... I was going to call it an analogy, but I suspect it was more litteral.

The trouble is of course that he couldn't ever have done that. Admitting defeat for Trump is physiologically impossible

Yes, his lawyers waived his rights to a jury trial by not ticking the box saying 'do you want a jury trial', which according to a couple of reports is a major cock up considering how he's attacked the judge who will be deciding the verdict.

Any bets on how long it will take him to violate his new gag order?

Yesterday evening he doxed the judges clerk, name, phone number and social media handles. Lunch was delayed for the orange-buffoon while he was forced to delete the post from Truth Social in court before the judge. I suspect that another outburst will result in some new fetching orange all-in-one wear for his court appearances.

No, they didn't - as you acknowledge.
It was a strategic decision to opt for a bench trial, taken with trump's backing, which is not working because he can't keep his mouth shut.

A strategic decision to leave the decision to a judge who is not impressed by Trump? Everything I'm seeing indicates an oversight and now Alina Habba is doubling down claiming a jury trial was not an option.

In civil trials in the US the Jury sets any damages and can tend to be quite creative and excessive with them - see Alex Jones getting a 10 figure fine to pay.

stategically Trump needs no to have a jury as the costs to pay in a case he can only lose (has already lost) should be lower if they set by a judge instead. Politically….his cult following is galvanised by a sense of persecution- so there not being a jury gives him something to point at as an injustice, even though it was his choice.

mert - it's not surprising as jordan has been and is very strongly pro-trump.
It's also an attempt by trump to ensure he stays relevant.

Oh, i know *why* he's doing it. But a complete waste. The chances of Gym getting the 218(?) votes he needs is, errrr, "low".
There are plenty of pro trump who might actually stand a remote chance of getting in.

Not a surprise for Trump though.

As part of Engoron's ruling putting Trump's companies into administration he's also asked for details of everyone who has a stake in these companies. Should be interesting what overseas names come out.

Trump has dismissed his own 500 million case against Cohen, because he was afraid of being deposed 🤦🏻‍♂️

Cohen can now counter sue for substantial damages 👍

American partisan Republican party politics is frankly pathetic. The western world is under attack and they are squabbling like infants..

FTFY. There are plenty of Democrats that I think are wrong on policy issues or corrupt, but they are within the normal bounds of politics everywhere. The Republican Party is something different, they aren't arguing about what policies they want to enact, they are arguing about how best to prevent any policies being enacted. They aren't arguing that Trump isn't corrupt, they are just saying that corruption doesn't matter. It's not a partisan problem, it's a problem that the Republican Party has fallen into the hands of conspiracy theory cranks and shameless fraudsters.

The fringes of the republican party.

You have to remember that the USA is the "States". The core Republican belief is for a small federal government. Which then pushes a lot of power down to a state level. Some states then choose to have high taxes, good public services, etc etc, and can trade off regulation Vs job creation, personal freedom Vs collective responsibility, etc.

The party is currently stuck in the same position Labour was 5 years ago, the base want's Corbyn/Trump, and in the Republican case he's got more support than every other candidate combined which means if you want to beat him you need to appeal to his supporters. At least in Labours case once Corbyn was out there was still a fairly healthy split between the other factions so there wasn't this lurch to the extreme.

In the senate they're only about 10-15 nutters, but like the ERG or UKIP they sometimes hold the balance of power, especially when it's split 49/51, you have to get those nutters to vote for your bill to get a majority, otherwise it has to be watered down so much the opposition will give you votes.

Don't think having most of his stock owned by Russians or Chinese will help him much!

I'm guessing it'll also show that he doesn't actually have as much money as he says he does as it's actually investors that have the cash. And he's out of the Forbes top 400 rich list, probably the opnly things that'll make him smart at the moment, but that will all be political witchhunts etc. etc. I'm sure.

That photo above of the Mango Mussolini’s attempt at a comb-over must be making him frothing mad, anything that attacks his overwhelming vanity will have him kicking the tables over all over Maro-a-Lardo.

For years I’ve been trying to work out his his comb over works. Looking at that picture is it all fringe? I can’t fathom the mentality behind having a comb over and what does one do whilst growing one? Wear a hat for the duration, go in to hiding?
